I really need some help. Hi everyone! Happy holidays, I need some advice from my fellow yt'ers. Bowie is 7 months this week, ava is 3 yrs old. Bowie is really mean to ava, he is so agresive, he takes toys away from her, puts his behind in her face and nips at her and now he has taken to humping her. He is just not nice to her. It really worries me, i want them to get along. Could it be his age, the fact that he is not neutered or the fact that i baby him? When ava is not here he is such a sweet boy. Can anyone help me , im sad they are being this way.:( |
Some of what you're seeing is puppy behavior and some simply means Bowie has decided he wants to be the dominate dog in the house. It doesn't mean they don't get along per se...it means he's the boss of her. |

It could be that he's not neutered and it could be that he's trying to be dominate. YOU need to establish your role in the house and show him that YOU are alpha. When he gets nasty, put him on his back and say no... he will fight you but DO NOT let him go until he stops. See, when dogs roll on their backs, that is their way of submitting and this forces him to submit and you prove your dominance. You should nip this in the bud before it gets worse. |
My Vet says humping is about dominance and he likely just wants her to know he is the boss, if she really didn't like it she wouldn't go anywhere near him and the way we get along isn't the way they get along, my mom has a cat that swats and my Verdelle and growls and he barks and jumps and torments her, but, she doesn't run away so I am thinking she likes it a bit:aimeeyork |

Most times my two play well but sometimes J'lo plays very rough with Diddy and tries to doiminate him......I stop her but have not tried the back thing.....I will try......both of mine are spayed and neutered but Diddy still humps his toy he doesn't try to hump J'lo. |
:lol tearsJ'lo & Diddy????? :lol tears I love it!!! Very creative. |
7 mos ... the testosterone is kicking in so if you get him neutered some of this will end but if he wants to be top dog... that's a different ballgame |
My Adie is 2 and Skeeter is 10 months old. I have found that Adie as an adult dog has a great deal of patience with the puppy and lets him get away with quite a bit. But as he gets older she is less and less tolerant of his brattish behavior and lets him know it. He will usually show her his belly when she lets him know she is fed upl He has been neutered since he was 6 months old and has long stopped humping his favorite stuffed toy. He is a full pound heavier than her and yet she is the alpha among the dogs. LOL. |

Fall. I think Maybelline is trying to be the boss and Gracie is just too old to care. I don't think Maybelline has ever willing turned over on her back unless she was asleep. We will let you know our progress. |
I think that whatever training method you choose is to be very consistent about it. Stop the behavior ASAP and continue to correct the behavior as soon as it is occuring. Yorkies are smart and soon will learn what is acceptable and what is not. :aimeeyork |
I think neutering will help a lot. He may be trying to show that he's the alpha dog. |

I have almost the same issue. And was looking for answers when I found this ...thanks for asking the question. My Sam is almost 11 months old and he can be really agressive to our little Chloe who is 9 month old. She weighs about 41/2 pounds and Sam is over 61/2 pounds, so he has size on her. He tries to dominate everything that they do....what toys she plays with.....who eats first and he has now started to hump her. I scold him with a sharp "NO" and he stops for the moment but he will do it again when we are not watching. But she just goes along with him and let's him control things. Every once in a great while she will have enough of him and then look out.......she comes at him like a little maniac. At that point we have to separte them. And then there are the times that they are so cuddly and loving to each other. But it's like Sam has to be first at everything....!! I am hoping that this is just a puppy phase and that they will work it out but there are days that Sam is like any other big brother and annoys her to no end!! I am going to try the technique of putting him on his back and see if that helps. We are looking to add a 3rd furr-baby but want to correct this before we add another. Thanks everyone for all the great advice!!! |
