So, if we get Jo a playpal... are we in for trouble and destruction around our house? I know 2 are more fun than one and there are benefits to having a second Yorkie but now that it's time I'm getting a bit nervous I think. Jo is well mannered and quiet, he sleeps all night, he doesn't chew on things and he's totally house trained. Don't get me wrong...he's a party animal when it comes to play time but the rest of the time he's a perfect boy. If we bring in another one are we taking a risk with Jo's good behavior or is it possible we'll be lucky anough to find a second one who is as well mannered as Jo? |
I have to say YES and NO....there is always that chance that the second one will be wild and hard to manage...but from my experience Sailor took alot after Magic...she is calm if not more calm than Magic and we have found it really has settle Magic down more because she has someone to play with 24/7.... |

Sophie is still the same sweet, mild mannered girl that she was before we brought Daisy into the equation. Daisy's disposition is sweet, but she's a bit more standoffish than Sophie. THey complement each other really well :) I debated long and hard before getting two, but it was a great decision for us! The pups and I are off to work! |
I luv Miko the best way I can describe being the alpha dog is that it's like when you were a kid, and one kid in the group was always in control while the others just followed along. The alpha dog is the one who always wants to do and have everything first. For example food, and toys. They may also want more attention than the others or intrude when you are giving the others attention. Their not bad, just bossy. |
two are better than one !! Max was very mild mannered and a little love bug....then came Milo. Milo is totally off the wall and full of energy. Max is still very mild mannered and a little snuggle bug. Bringing Milo home didn't change him one bit - just gave him a playmate, which is exactly what he needed. I would do it all over again ! In fact, I would love to get a little girl now but wonder if Two's company-Three's a crowd ? |

Today she made the steps for the first time up& down! Its also good because sometimes one is tired so now there is usually 2 who are ready to play. She also seems to learn everything so much quicker because she follows them with everything! |
leximax - What are the age differences in your three ? We have a 10-month old and an 8-month old. I was thinking of waiting a year to get our little girl but don't know if this would be too big of an age difference. It was easy with the boys becuase they were so close in age... Anyone with any opinions ? |
Thank you for the input...I know every situation is different but I wanted a general opinion from everyone here. We will be getting Jo a playpal...I'm leaning towards a little girl but we'll see what happens in the near future. First things first though...new patio, fence, doggie door then the puppy! |
I was just talking about my experience with this situation on another thread. I love having both of my babies! Two IS better than one! They play so cute together and having two little warm fuzzy bodies in my bed at night is so sweet! However, I do have to mention this...beware of the first few months. I had Monkey first. He was VERY well mannered and very well housebroken. When I got my female, he "went" nuts all over the house. He also got jealous and depressed no matter how much attention I showed him. Naturally, a puppy needs more attention than an adult dog, but I tried my best to have my own special alone time with him. Take him on rides and walks, etc. Now they are so good together. Maybe you won't have this problem with having a depressed baby (Monkey was VERY spoiled as yours probably is too) but if you do have this problem, I think it just takes some "getting used to" for the both of them. three is better than one!! lol jk i do have 3 little furballs.. two yorkies and one maltese and boy let me tell you.. i always have the time of my life.. of course there are some ups and downs.. but the good times always outweigh the bad. its always nice having three cold noses touch your warm body at night :) its so fun when your training all three to sit & lay at the same time lol.. it's fun having 3 smiling faces waiting for you to come home. and of course if two don't want to play with you, you always have one who always will. its fun when one does something bad and the other two will rat you out :p well that's how it is at my house.. i've had some ups and downs with their pottytraining, but i'm glad everything has worked out for the best! so best wishes for Jo-Jo and her/his new playmate i know you'll have tons of fun together!! :D I actually am going to get a 4th! :) |
:p I have two and I'm so glad I do. Joy is 5 and Jig is 1 and a half. They play together a lot and it is so cute. Joy is quiet and occasionally nervous by nature. When she doesn't want to play, Jig plays with us because he is very playful and has lots of energy. Both sleep with us. Both greet us at the door when we arrive home for the day. It warms my heart when they jump on their hind legs and wag their little tails so fast you can barely see them. They're both house trained. Jig was a little more difficult because he wanted to lift his leg on the furniture. Jig went through a spell not too long ago where he wanted to get frisky with Joy, but it was short lived and we just put them in their separate kennels (they are also kennel trained) to keep Jig from wearing himself out. :rolleyes: Dawn |

I have two girls, Chloe and Lacey. They are 6 months apart but Lacey, the tiny is quite the boss now. I believe it is terrific to have more than one, they can play together, are adorable and really, each yorkie has its own personality. Your first could be wired or a lap lover. I just made sure I gave the oldest, Chloe, the first attention, first treat, etc. for awhile, just to make sure she did not feel neglected. Most of the time she puts up with Lacey's bossy ways but every now and then she'll get tired of it and let Lacey know she's the older sister. |
