Yorkies and other breeds Hi, I had to put my 14-1/2 year old poodle, Elvira, to sleep two weeks ago. My yorkie, Rocky, is now alone. I am not sure yet about getting a second dog again as Rocky and Elvira tolerated each other but I think he annoyed her. He is very demanding of attention. I am not sure about getting another yorkie although I love him to death. I have to admit that my poodle was smarter and I never had the housetraining issues I still have with him at the age of 12. Just wondering if anyone has two small dogs of different breeds and how they get along. I would probably love a yorkie poo if I could find one. Thanks! |
We have a female yorkie and a female mini-aussie and they are best buddies. They play very well together and we've never had any issues with either one of them. My daughter has a large dog about 70 lbs. and my yorkie gets along great with him too. Only problem there is when Dakota hits Gracie with his tail and she almost falls over. :D A lot of this has to do with the dogs personality and how well they are socialized but I would be inclined to chose a breed similar in size and temperment. |

I wish you the best of luck in your search. Oooh your question. My Abby gets along well with our golden retriever, Misty. Misty weighs 85lbs! She is a very sweet tempered dog. Daisy on the other hand is more like your Rocky and just tolerates other dogs. As the above poster said, I think it's very likey more about the personality of the dog than the breed. Although I still think a yorkie poo would be a good choice for you. |
I have Baron a 7 pound Yorkie,Very full of energy and loves to play. His "Brother" is Sammy, a 15 pound rescued Papillion, who likes the sofa,is a slug, has never played with a toy and growls alot!! But, They do run around chasing each other since Baron arrived 6 months ago, and I believe do love each other. When Sammy's had enough he goes up the steps to the 2 nd floor and rests, Baron does not do steps, yet. When he's ready he comes down and it starts all over again. I do put Baron in a crate when we leave and sleep. That way Sammy can go to sleep peacefully on "HIS" sofa... When I take 1 out and leave the other, My hubby says they look all over the house for the missing one. I hope this helps, Blessings, Baron and Sammy's Mom |
