somebody needs a haircut(opinions please) I'm undecided as to where I should take him. The airport pet lodge has always groomed our outdoor dogs, but they just get a flea dip and a basic shave for summer. When it comes to doggy 'hairstyles' does it make a difference where to go? I want to get Turky a cute cut and I don't want to worry about his coat/hair getting botched. I was trying to decide if the kennel or a place like PetSmart would do a better job. Any thoughts? TIA :) |
I would talk to other people with long-haired dogs or you could call your vet/area vets and ask if they recommend anyone. Good luck with your search. |

Oh!, good idea on the vet..the thought never occured to me. I think I'll give them a call on Monday. Thank you :) |
You're welcome!! I work at a Veterinary Hospital and clients will ask, so we keep a list by the phone--also if a baby comes in cut really cute, I will ask the owner who they used and if if they are satisfied with the care they received. |
Try the regional forums, and see if anyone has a recommendation for a good groomer in your area. If you do a yahoo search, you might find sites where people write in to rate the grooming businesses. If you know anyone with a Yorkie or other small dog, ask them where they go, and what they think of the places. I would definitely call different groomers and find out their specialty. I wasn't happy with Lexi's first grooming experience. I just brought her yesterday to a groomer who: 1) specializes in small dogs; 2) more specifically, specializes in Yorkies; 3) is a Yorkie owner; 4) shows her Yorkies; and 5) is a member of YT - I found out when talking to her! I was so happy with this experience, and she taught me many helpful things. :) |
Ask around to people you know. Google search local grooming businesses. Some people have had bad luck with PetSmart grooming, but I have had good luck with them. |
Just keep in mind, that you should ALWAYS check out the facility first! When I first started working at an animal hospital, i was a bather, and then became a grooming assistant, and we would go look at petsmart places, and i was sooo mortified, but some people swear by it. I just have different views since I used to do that stuff. Im in the same boat as you with needing my baby to be groomed. I can do Fiona's nails, anal glands, and basic cut, but I would rather have the groomer I used to work with do it for me. Good Luck!!!! :D |
My groomer actually works out of my vets office...and she is fantastic!!! I don't know what I'd do if she ever quit grooming...I have actually changed vets because she did. I have used her for 16 years...and I just love her...I will follow her where ever she may go. So I would most definitely ask my vet...and other people with Yorkies. Then go in and actually talk to the groomer, take a look around, even ask for references...we can't be too careful with our little ones now can we? |
