How much Sleep does a puppy need? Hi. I am brand new to Yorkies, My wonderful husband came home with our little angel a few days ago. She is absolutely precious. My big boys, Tucker and Tyler (lab and basset) thinks she's a toy. She plays really nice with Tyler, but not so much with Tucker. My lab seems to be a bit miffed at her while, Tyler is so gentle and sweet with her. Some people I have asked seem to think he is letting her know her place. I have had many dogs, however we have never had a Yorkie. She is so sweet...... One of my questions is, she seems to sleep alot. I have tried to keep her on some what sort of a schedule, but with Christmas and all it's been a little crazy. I also have 5 children. ages 9 to 24. They all fight over her too. : ) . I had took her to the vet where she checked out at 100 percent perfect. Although she does have worms and is on meds. for 10 days for that. Could the med. make her sleepy or is this normal? Thank You for any help. Tami |
Well congrat's on your new girl! How sweet of your hubby! How old is she?? Most puppies sleep quite a bit- they are still babies!! LOL!!! And the med's might make her sleepy! sounds like she is fine though- if the vet said she was!! someone will give you better info!! LOL!! But my Banjo sleeps alot still- and he is a year! |
Thank You, She's 10 weeks old. It's been about 4 years since I had a puppy. And he is a yellow lab, he was always on high speed. Tami <>< |
That's normal for them to sleep a lot, they're babies. Mine is 6 1/2 mos and still sleeps a lot. She plays for about 15-20 min. then is ready for her nap. Can't wait to see pictures |
They sleep A LOT  Depending on how old they are and how hard they play Just like babies... they need a lot of sleep but I wouldn't worry about making sure they get too much or too little Puppies will just keel over when they're tired :p Just make sure they have a nice comfortable place to go and she'll curl up every few hours |
Thank you, if I only new how to post them...lol...... I have heard they are very hyper little ones so I was a little concerned. She seems very docile, but she does like to play. As soon as I pick her up she just melts in my arms. We sure are loving her. I just wish my Lab would lover her as much as my basset. We ere really surprised at him, Tyler(basset) is usually the one who can be a bit snippy, but he just lets her play and pull on his ears and rolls over on his back and just lays there. Tucker on the other hand has growled at her. He doesn't like her to even come up to him. He gets up and walks away. We are very careful not to allow them to be together unsupervised. I have a free ranging cockatiel that walks all over the house and he doesn't bother her a bit. But of course she doesn't want to play with him either. Any suggestions on getting him to warm up to her? Tami <>< |
My baby Hiro slept ALL the time! He was awake for maybe 4 hours a day for the first two months at least, and he was 13 weeks when we got him. I was concerned when he was sleeping so much, but was told it was completely normal. In fact, he STILL sleeps a lot! But we're on a schedule so he snooooozes like clockwork! |
thanks so much I just got my baby a week ago. He is 12 weeks old. He is napping now and I was wondering if he was sleeping to much...he plays hard and sleeps hard. It is very good to hear this is normal. I love this site. |
Puppies under 16 weeks sleep 80-90%, so I wouldn't worry. Puppies are growing, and sleep is very important to growing puppies. Congrats on the new babies. |
bringing this up to say..my lil one, she enjoys playing, but also enjoys her snoozing. at 4 mo old, completely normal. dogs play, sleep, and eat. 3 favorite hobbies. if only our lives could be so simple, lol. :) when i think of their tiny bodies and how hard they work to just walk and jump and play in general, it makes sense why all that rest is needed, and well deserved. :animal36 hugs, michelle |
