help wont eat ive been tryin to feed my little guy since 9am.. he ate 4 pieces of dry and two little chunks of wet.. he refuses food..im gunna run to the store and buy some other types of food. what else can i do?? |
How long have you had him? How old is he? How much does he weigh? If you've had him for a while and he's at least 6 months old (depending on weight, also), I would just let him be. Puppies go through phases of being ravenously hungry to not hungry at all, just like humans. He will eat when he is hungry. If you just got him and he is young, you need to watch out for hypoglycemia. I would give him a bit of Nutrical and try to get him to eat something. If he won't eat his food, try putting a little bit of plain yogurt or cottage cheese. If all else fails, you can try a little baby food but this is only temporary, it cannot be used as an alternative to food. |
I was told on here if he's young ( 12 weeks or so) give him nutri-cal or if you don't have that you can give them a 1/2 tsp karo syrup, so they keep their energy up and don't have low blood sugar. I had to do that to Tyke the first week we had him and that was when he was around 12 weeks old. It helped alot. Also Have you changed his food lately? I had to go buy the same food the breeder was feeding Tyke before he would eat. And I tried 5 kinds of food. So I called and found out what kind she fed him and when i went and bought some........well he hasn't turned it down since and that was back in Sept. yeah i seen in your profile that's he's 2 monthes old....you might have to use the karo syrup to help him through. hope this helps some. :) |
Have you tried liquifying canned food and syringing it? You can try boneless skinless chicken breast and rice. |
yea i went to the store and bought the same food the breeder was usiing and he had another little chunk of that.. i put 2 fingertips of nutrical on the roof of his mouth but he has that everyday.. should i try syringing? i heard that could be dangerous though |
oh hes 9 weeks and 1.9 lbs, he seems very active.. hes playing in hs cage but i just want him 2 eat =( |

If you just drip some food below is tongue, it might work. Don't squirt it toward is throat. Chicken and rice works for most dogs but it can't be a steady diet. You can cook and mashed up carrot, potato, sweet potato... Noodles might work. Cooked green beans. No seasonings though. |
Mine was like that too. He sometimes wouldn't eat so i cover his food up. (he's 2 now) then at night, he gets hungry and would sit by his bowls and whimper. Then he would eat. I did this a few times and now he eat according to time. |
ok just got back from my 2nd trip to the supermarket! i got beef and veggies & chicken and veggies baby food..nd chicken breast that my mother in law is broiling as we speak.. what a day for him to do this to me.i was supposed 2 leave an hour ago nd i didnt even shower yet.. gerber baby food is ok? |

I don't think he is "doing this to you" on purpose. These are the risks you take wheb you get an 8 week old puppy. I hope you are taking him with you when you leave. The baby food should help, you can also see if he'll eat peanut butter in a small amount. Use the nutrical sparingly, it can sometimes cause them to not want to eat. |

Another thing about the nutrical is, while it is okay to give, it can cause spikes in sugar and then possible lows. Protein is very important to try and balance him out. How much nutrical are you giving a day? Because he has some inappetence and he didn't some out of his episode the other night fast enough, I would still be wondering if there is something else going on here. Since he did have that episode and it was thought to be hypo and he is so young, he needs to be fed every 2-3 hours at the least I would think. That includes during the night. There must be a very palatable canned food out there that he would eat. How many brands have you tried? |
bailee does this too,she is 14 weeks but she doesnt alway eat when i want her too, sometimes i wonder if shes gonna starve but then shell eat :D hopefully hell like all the yummies you are making for him! |
