Erin and Toby new members with questions... 2 Attachment(s) Hi everyone- I am glad to have found this forum. I have a 8 month old Yorkie-Poo, named Toby aka Tobius. He really is a very sweet, active dog- but can be aggressive at times. I have a few issues that I am trying to correct when it comes to Toby, and have made my way to the forum for advice. He is pretty much potty trained on training pads, every once in a while he has an accident. But recently within the past couple of weeks he has been peeing on the couch. Today I was sitting on the couch, he jumped up, I told him no, he barked at me as he usually does when I say no. He then proceeded to lift his leg and pee, luckily I caught him before he soiled it too much. Any suggestion as to why he might be doing this as of lately? I have never seen him lift his leg before, this is a new act, because when he pees on the pads he squats. I tried cleaning the microfiber cover with vinegar and water, that did not work. I then used natures miracle and it still smells. What should I do to get rid of the smell? Any advice would be great. Also- is it too late to get him neutered I read that 4-6 months is the best time. Is it too late at 8 months? I am considering taking him to a training facility that will train him within a week, and then have me come to the facility and they will train me (teach me commands/demeanor/etc). Toby feels he is the pack leader and I need to gain control, because he can be very disobedient at times. I know I am the one that needs the training to become the dominant one. I know I have a lot of issues with my little one, but I want to correct them before it is too late. Thanks for listening and thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions. -Erin and Toby |
I don't have advice on his behavior but I will say it is NOT too late to get him neutered. Canyon was neutered at 7 1/2 months. Neutering him might also help with the behavior he is exhibiting. As far as him being disobedient and you needing to be the alpha, I don't have an answer, however, there are many experts on this site that can help you. Good luck with your little one, he's a cute lil guy. |
Welcome to YT. I would have him neutered as soon as possible as it will help in more ways than one. Bailey was neutered when he was 10 months old so it's not to late for your little guy. |
Welcome to YT! It is never to late to spay or neuter your pup. Many say that after a certain age they will continue to mark and act aggressive etc... But many have also proven this wrong. I would say get your pup fixed and take that out of the equation, that way you can get a clearer picture of what needs to be done. Welcome to Yorkie Talk and Happy Holidays! :) |
OMG I cannot get past that precious FACE!!! Psstt, get the littel sucker tutered!!;) |
Hi ther eand welcome to YT ! Your Toby is so cute ... A bit of a handful, but, gosh he is adorable. I think he is testing you and trying to be top dog! Telling you that he is the boss of his domain in his new home. Little stinker. I would be sure to have him fixed and then seek out behavioral training . He should not be allowed to get away with peeing on the furniture ever, and to do it after being told NO, makes me think he did it to be in charge. |
He can be neutered at 8 months. While he needs training, I wouldn't leave him at a facility alone for this. It is too easy for people to abuse him that way. I would hire a personal trainer to come to your house. If Nature's Miracle isn't taking the smell out, there is a product called Atmosklear (sp?) that might work but I'm not sure if it can be used on that material. |

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will be making an appointment on Monday, and of course I will be there with him. I will look for the Atmosklear and information about if it can be used on upholstery. I will also be looking for a trainer. Thank you for all of your help1 |
