Hello, this is my first post! I just wanted to say hello. I am a pretty new Yorkie Owner. Our Sammie is about 4 months old now. He is super hyper but we love him so much. A Yorkie is the only little dog my husband would agree to. So, we have learned to sit and are working on other commands but it is so hard to keep his attention. Any tips on that and potty training? |

Hi to you and Sammie!! Welcome to YT. My little girls Fifi and Lulu were too hyper at that age. I used to play with them until they tire. Then I would get an hour or two of peaceful sleep!!! and for toilet training I made sure after every meal time I would take them straight outdoors, they soon got the hang of it. Hope this info is helpful. Merry christmas to you and Sammy love Wendyx Fifi:animal36 And Lulu:animal36:xmastree::gbhouse::santahat::xmascan d::snowman2: |
Hello, and welcome to YT! You will love it here, this place if full of info and advice on Yorkies. |
Hello! Hi and welcome to YT! :wavey:you're gonna love it here! As far as house breaking goes it just takes time and patience......I use a firm 'NO' if I catch Twinkle peeing or pooping where she shouldn't and take her to where she should be going (outside or peepad). When she does go where I want her to I give her loads of praise and a treat. She still has accidents but she's getting there! I wish you lots of luck with your little one:D xxx xxx |
Welcome... I'm new to YT also My puppies aren't hyper at all. I've got two Yorkies and a Morkie and the thing I love about these babies most is that they aren't hyper. They seem to love cuddling and playing with a few toys but they don't turn in to a ball of frantic energy like some other pups I've had. But potty training?! Ha... small dogs take forever to get the hang of going potty outside. |
Welcome to YT. I agree with other posters - patience and consistency! Look forward to hearing more about your new baby. |
Welcome to YT . |
Welcome to YT We need pictures:D Get a plan and stick to it...they catch on eventually |
Welcome to Yorkietalk! I agree with everyone else about the potty training. It takes time, patience, and consistency. Walker is 5 months old and he just got the hang of it one day. Suddenly he was peeing in the right place all the time. woohoo! With the training thing, I always do it after a nice long walk so that hes not going spastic. Good luck!:) |
Welcome to YT! It's a great site and the people here are truly wonderful!:yorkietal |
Hello and welcome to YT. My Baxter was a whirlwind at that age, but he has settled down into a loving and cuddling little guy. He is 14 months. As for potty training that came pretty natural, as we had another dog, who I think showed Baxter what he should do outside. So around 5-6 months, we could trust Baxter anywhere in the house. Just take time and it will happen. Again welcome |
Welcome! I am new to YT and new to yorkies too (have had bigger dogs all my life). As for potty training, mines 4 months and we have special treats she only gets when she goes outside. Once she goes she gets a VERY energetic "good girl" and we go right in for a treat, she dances on her hind leggs for it and it has worked pretty well so far. But with our weather going to 16 degrees in the mornings with this cold everyone seems to have she has reverted back to having more accidents inside. Also when I catch her in the house I clap loud to interupt and she will stop and we go right outside then she finished her business in the right area and we get a good girl and a treat. Patience is a must! It can be frustrating but there is hope. Merry Christmas! :gbhouse::xmastree1::santa3: |
Welcome to YT!!! I can't help you on the potty training as my 18 week old baby came potty trained she only uses it outside. She has had one or two accidents but I want to get her trained to a puppy pad also. She will only tear the puppy pads up. Good luck on the potty training!!! |
Yes, we are using a crate. He is doing really well with it but it seems like we really have to watch him every second he is out and running around. I have never seen a dog go potty so much!!! I really want to try to train him to bark or just go to the door when he needs to go out but it is not going very well |
Thanks for all of the great advice. I know it will take time and he is definitely worth it. We will just keep on working on it. Thanks again and Merry Christmas! |
