Help me please!!! Argggggggggg! My two yorkies are sooo destructive. I have no idea what to do at this point. They tear up everything. I got a pp pad holder and they started disassembling it. I just home to find that they tore a hole in the couch and continue to tear up the walls. Are anyone elses yorkies this destructive?? I've tried the xpen and one of them keeps getting out. She will climb, jump do whatever it takes to get out and she usually succeeds. We have even tried taping cardboard around the whole top rim to make it higher and she can still get out! Its 36 inches high! They are both about 8 months old and I dont know if they are supposed to outgrow this phase. I also have a problem with the female licking constantly. We cant hug her or even hold her without her licking us non stop :( . Even if we are just standing up she will start licking our feet constantly. I dont know if this is pent up anxiety or what, all I know if that I desperately need advice!!! :confused: |
have you tried spraying bitter apple on ur furniture? try that ... and around the pad holder too |
Yes I have tried that as well and it doesn't work on them! They actually seem to like the taste! :eek: |

lol, I've tried that too. Initially they stopped but then they got used to the taste and started tearing things up again. I have no idea what to do, it seems that I've tried everything. I want to buy new furniture but Im terrified that they will rip it all up! :( |
I think it's a dog/puppy thing in general to lick a lot. So I don't know. But have you tried crate training? It works and it's not mean. It's to teach them boundaries. |
I have tried it, but I have never fully grasped the concept. Its confusing, and I've tried reading a book on it and it confused me even more. So I stopped doing it because I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. :( |

I would not let them be out unsupervised. Since they can get out of the pen, I'd put them in seperate crates. Sounds like you have them potty trained to pads. If that is working for you, skip the crate training concept for potty training. My puppy, Trace does not have full run of the house unless he's supervised. When we go out, he goes into his crate. He's actually likes his crate and will go in volunteerily....sometimes he goes in to sleep or takes toys in there to play with. Don't feel bad about putting them in crates, it works and other than some paper....at our house NOTHING has been chewed up or destroyed... Good luck:) |
I would try crate training again too. The destructive period does pass. My dogs went through it also. |

I agree with a previous post. They can't be left unsupervised when your not home until the destructive phase is over. Do they have lots of things to chew on and play with? As far as licking goes our Ellie Mae is like that. She's a year and a half now and still does it. For whatever reason its just in her to do it. Crate training is really pretty simple. They are in it whenever you can't supervise them. Ours is 4x4 and quite pleasant for them to be in. They don't seem to mind. It did however take a little time for them to adjust. We keep everything they will need in it. Food, water, pee pad, toys and a soft bed. Hope this helps. Keep us posted. |
I agree that something needs to be done and I would go with either crating them or sticking them in a bedroom where nothing can be destroyed...like the bathroom or kitchen...our girls went through a destructive phase (not as bad as yours) and we just quit letting them have roam of the house and a couple of months later they finally stopped and now are back to themselves...try and be patient as hard as that is at times!! |
Thank you everyone! I am probably going to try the crate training again, because I obviously need to get them under control. Im guessing that maybe Im too leanient? Im definitely going to take all the advice given to me and incorporate it into their training. I really appreciate everyones help. :) |
