Surgeries Well I had another checkup for Stormy and she is doing amazing. It was the same vet who seen her the first time when we brought her in and he was shocked to see us, I said do you remember us and he said of course he did, he was surprised to see her alive! He said he really didn't believe she was going to make it, he said he really thought she was going to pass away at home but was amazed and very happy she was okay. He played with her on the floor and checked her out, he said it is a miracle there was no internal damage. He said her nose is what it is, we can do surgery on it to fix it up a little bit for her, theres a little piece of skin/flesh at the tip of her nose, it sticks out a little, almost like a little ball. It is very small and he said he would like to remove it. Of course she will have to be put under for this. I am worried about putting her under, shes never been put under before and I just worry what if she didn't wake up. She has been through so much that it scares me because who knows what else has happen to her that I don't know. If we do this surgery then she has a couple baby teeth that need to be removed also. But the vet says to spay her at the same time too. I am not comfortable with three different procedures at the same time. Stormy is small, fragile and I just think that may be a little too much for a 3.5 lb baby :( I would be more comfortable with the two, but is a spay REALLY needed RIGHT NOW? I know it decreases their chances of cancer but her heat cycle she went through wasn't bad and you hardly could tell she was in heat, it was very mild. I don't feel the need to fix her right now and would much rather wait a little longer, I don't have any intentions to breed her, shes never outside by herself or around male dogs so no worry of her getting pregnant. |
How many times has she been in heat? I would do it as soon as possible. You will want to eventually due to pyometra risk and it is best and healthiest to get it over with. If she has already had three heats, spaying will no longer decrease her risk of mammary cancer. She does need those teeth pulled before they start causing her problems. Ellie is bigger at 5.8-6 pounds but she had a spay, liver biopsy and teeth cleaning all in the same day. Spay and dental work are done together often. Of course there is risk with any surgery but I would do all three at once. Then she won't have to be put under again in the near future hopefully. To be spay, she will need preop blood work and I would do the bile acid test first. |
I don't have an answer for you because I am not experienced enough, but I just wanted to say how happy I am to hear your little baby girl is doing fine.:cheer: I know it breaks your heart when they are hurt and mopey. Bless you for having the strength your baby needed for you to help her through this. Have a wonderful holiday, and enjoy it with your little miracle. I am not sure how many heats she has had, I was told she had just finished one before I got her but I'm not sure how true that is because after a month and a half of having her she went into heat. It just seems like alot to have surgery on your nose, mouth and belly. She is small and I don't want to put her through TOO MUCH at once. I want to talk to another vet it just seems kind of like a money grab, he would be making 800+ for all three procedures. I know the teeth are important because I don't want her to get any problems with her mouth, the nose I am on the fence about, I want some second opinions on it because I don't see what they can really do for her nose. Thank you JMDT I hope you and your family have a wonderful Holiday also! :) |
