Thought we were house-trained... My 13 month old boys, Max & Milo have been house-trained to pee pads and doing very well until a week ago. Now they are peeing anywhere and pooing under my kitchen table. I am going crazy trying to watch their every move. Any ideas on why this is happening? I have reverted back to rewarding them every time I catch them going in the RIGHT spot hoping that will help. Could this have anything to do with them not being fixed yet? I have noticed in the last month or so they are playing more aggressively together. |

Hmm. In the meantime you could use belly bands! |

you always want to get a male neutered before they start lifting their legs. The sad thing is, is that once they start lifting their legs, a lot of times having them neutered it's too late. That's what happened to sons yorkie, he did what the vet said, and had him neutered at 5 1/2 mos. but, he had started lifting his leg before the neutering. He doesn't mark, but, he does lift his leg and pee on my walls, etc when he comes over here. My sons fiance said the other day(he was supposed to have been my little guy), you would have rehomed him by now wouldn't you have? My honest answer was YES. I'm so lucky my male stands and pees on the pad, only lifts his leg outside..I would def. still get them neutered! |

Neither of the boys hikes his leg yet and I consider myself lucky for that! I guess a trip to the vet soon is in order. |

Hmmm, I don't know. Are they marking? Or just flat out peeing? Neutering might help, but it honestly just sounds like they're going through a little relapse, especially since they're pooping in the wrong spots too! I would just do exactly what you're doing right now...reward them every time they go in the right spot, just like you did when they were little puppies. That should get them right back on track. :) |

It must be marking. I will find that they have used the pad and then find a tiny little spot on the carpet. ??? |

Oh dear, sounds like marking. If they're doing their "big pees" on the pad, and then randomly peeing a little elsewhere, it definitely sounds like marking. I'd get them neutered. But just a warning, neutering will not guarantee that the behavior will stop, especially since they're a bit older. But it's definitely worth a try. In the meantime, I'd get some belly bands! |
