Why do dogs do this?? My puppy likes to grab some kibbles from her dish and take it somewhere else to eat. Years ago I had a s**tzu that did the same thing. What's up with that? |
Haha, I have no clue, but my pup does the exact same thing! It's funny to watch, but I wish I knew why he did it... Hopefully someone will have the answer! :D |
It's just a dog thing. My thought is that it's part of the pack mentality. Grab as much from the kill as you can and go eat it someplace safe were it won't be stolen from you. All of mine do it. It's really funny to watch, if one lingers a bit too long at the dish, one of the other two will bark and remind the offending dog to get a bite and move on, there are others that need to eat too. :D What makes it even funnier is that there are 2 bowls of food out and when one starts to eat out of one bowl they all feel the need to eat out of only that bowl. And I don't know how Yogi puts on any weight, he'll get one piece of kibble and walk around in circles until he's eaten it, then he goes back for another piece. |
My three also do that, they take it somewhere where it's easier for them to eat. it's funny when they do that - just gotta laugh:D |
LOL, yes my 3 do that too, is very funny to watch..LOL hugs, cArmen in nj |
LOL! Mine do that, too! |
Both mine do it also. It drives me nuts. They have two separate bowls and are in two separate rooms to eat ( I don't want Chloe eating Syd's food right now , we are trying to change her food) Yet they both do it. What's worse is the pieces of kibble they don't like they just drop on the floor and walk away from  so I have little trails of kibble leading away from the bowl. I think it is just natural for dogs to grab some and go , like someone else mentioned "The pack mentality" get what you can and move away. Or maybe from when they were a pup's and had to fight for a place. |

Same thing here I would love to know what the thought process is behind this. Malli does the same thing and it drives my hubby insane b/c Baileigh Jo (our boxer) will stand and eat at her dish but Malli will not...it really drives him crazy when we are trying to sleep and she decides she is hungry goes and grabs food then brings it into the bed to eat it b/c all you hear is crunch crunch crunch.... |
Pasquale will eat at his dish ONLY and ONLY if you are in the kitchen with him. Otherwise, he takes it everywhere. OH, and if happens to drop it on the floor by mistake...forget it...its dead to him! It's no longer good to eat! Apparently the 5 second rule doesnt even apply to him! |
both Avie & Gemma do this! :) Gemma will honestly bring it clear across the room sometimes! |

Hmm, is this a 'free-feeding' thing or is my gang odd? My 3 are fed twice a day - they each have their own bowls on their own placemats - as soon as I put their bowls down they eat until they are done. |
Yeah dogs get into some odd habits when it comes to feeing time some are instinctual and some are just bits of nervousness or acting out food aggressions If you don't like them or you want them to stop Put the bowl out at a certain time give them 15 mins to eat it if they ain't done the bowl goes away ... believe me ' in 3-4 days |
