Indestructable pups!!
 

When I first got my boys at 9weeks old I knew pratically nothing about yorkies and the ailments they could be born with or develop. I had no idea how fragile they are either.

I have never even heard of
luxating patella
hypoglycemia
liver shunt
AAL
Parvo
Giardia
and much more Im sure...

My 2 boys are my life and I do everything I can to protect them. However things happen beyond our control. I am grateful everyday they are here, healthy and happy.

My fletcher jumps off the back of the couch onto the tile floor multiple times a day. I have tried steps, pillows, blankets, training him to jump from the front of the couch at the very least. NOTHING has worked. He jumps from there and that is what he does. He has never hurt himself ... at least not yet. Both boys jump onto and off the bed and I can't stop them from that either. There is a bench that makes stairs but they won't even look at it no matter how many times I lead them to it and help them up, they ignore it.

The other night my Dex rolled over and fell off the bed. I heard the thump and jumped out of the bed. He ran around the bed looking a little shaken like 'what the heck just happened???" I picked him up and cuddled and checked him out. He was FINE! (that was not the first time) This same pup swallows things whole and only choked once or twice and got it down. He has also chewed through a laptop cord when it was plugged in and was fine.

I feel like I am an awful mommy sometimes because they seem to do so many 'unsafe' things. I try to catch them and stop them and retrain them, but I feel like them or me has an angel or something. They are indestructable. :) I hope I did not jinx myself or them in saying that. I just feel so lucky that my rough and tumble boys have never been hurt.

Anyone else have any stories of amazement that their pup was not hurt from something? Or that their pup does something dangerous and they just won't stop doing it?

My Mahina fell off the bed once or twice when she was a puppy(when I first got her, she's still a puppy lol)... after that she wasn't allowed on unless I was awake. I got a ramp and now she runs up and down that.
One thing that scares the heck out of me though is when she's playing with my cat, she gets really into it, and my cat just jumps off the bed (cuz well she's a cat lol). She'll jump off my bed too. It's about 32inches high and it makes me so mad when she does it! I'm so scared something is going to happen to her. It doesn't even bother her at all... she just jumps and continues playing. :eek: I've stopped her a few times but she's so fast! I don't know what else to do, she knows to go around on the ramp.

She's also chewed through the laptop cord... there was multiple attempts to chew through it all along the cord. I thought I had it where she couldn't get it, well when I came home it was completely chewed through. God forbid she chewed the other side through and she wouldn't be here now. Well, 80 bucks later to replace it I now put it in a drawer when I leave.

I'm glad I picked a bigger pup... she's about 5.5lbs at 5 months. I'd be even more of a nervous wreck if she was really tiny.

Girl the boys are dare devils..they are going to give you grey hairs...lol.

Dnt worry ur not a horrible mommy.. you are only human. I was in a panick the other day when i caught Junior chewing on a PUSH PIN!!!!!!:eek:
I was like if i didnt catch him he could have swollowed that and been bleeding internally..OMG it scared me crazy. But i keep cleaning up and sweeping and makng sure he is safe. dogs will be dogs and we can try to protect them as much as possible (j ust like kids) but I am coming to the understandng that they are going to get in to some messy situation, all we can do is be prepared.

Dexter fell off the bed again this morning!! I don't know whats up with him!! He's ok though, its a carpeted floor and not too high. This is the second night in a row and the 3rd time this week! He has never done this before! :(
