Weather question!! So lately it has been pretty cold in texas and my baby wont stay warm unless she is inside and bundled up...when i take her outside to potty or look atthe christmas lights i put her sweater on and cover her with her blankie and she still shivers!!! i dont know what to do to keep her warm but also include her in all the fun holiday stuff we do...any suggestions? :( |
I hear yorkies don't fare well in the cold I'm leaving for MI tomorrow and frantic about bringing my yorkie into the cold weather (we live in FL). I found snowsuits (cold weather suits???) at Pets Mart but they were too big.:( Anyhoo, Juicy Couture had a cashmere/wool sweater set last year (I saw one this year at a really kewl puppy boutique) and thank goodness I purchased it (my hubby thought I lost my mind...lol). The set included a warm scarf and leggins but the leggins wouldn't stay up (you'd think for the price Juicy would have made a better design). :mad: Anyhoo, mine goes on pee pads (or carpets or throw rugs or bath mats on the floor....):eek:. Do you use any doggie boots? If so, do they stay on? Too bad Uggs doesn't make doggie boots!!! Now THEY keep ya warm! |
awww poor baby. My boys hardly ever shiver, I think they like the cold. I wish I knew what to do. Maybe try a heating pack wrapped up in the blanket with her. Not directly on her but with a blanket layer between her and the pack. Maybe the will give the extra warmth she needs. Its sad to see your baby shiver! |
If the sweater isn't doing the job you need to keep adding layers until you find the right amount for your baby. I would try putting on pj's, booties and a heavy coat. Maybe even the sweater too, if it'll all fit. There are several YT'ers that make the pj's or you can find them at most pet stores and boutiques and online too. Good luck, I'm afraid we may be in for a long cold winter with the cold temps we've already had this year. We usually don't get the freezing cold until Feb or March. |
haha no i dont have any boots for her but i doubt they would stay on...she dont even like the sweater i put on her but its for her own good!!...i feel like when i put all these layers on her she cant move hahah :) Quote:

cold? OK, I had to laugh a bit because cold in TX and cold in MN are two very different things!!:p And our little one LOVES the cold. It was -2 out today and Gracie didn't want to come inside :rolleyes: However, I always make sure she is at least as warm as I am, which means she wears a sweater at all times and the warmest coat I could find for when she goes out. we are working on getting her to wear boots outside but she isn't much up to the idea. all I have to say is LAYERS!! that is what we humans do in MN and it works for the dogs too! |
I find that mine only shiver when it first starts to get cold. When we go from 70 to 45 in a single day here (gotta love Chicago) they have a hard time adjusting. Once we get cold and stay cold for weeks they are fine. Today they fought me on wearing just T-shirts. At this point we only bundle them when we go out in the car and if I take them out to spend more time outside than just peeing. We got 6 inches of snow last week and it's consistently been 15 degrees and I still have to drag them back inside - they go out to eat the snow! |
I live in Kansas, and this has been Marley's first snow fall ever. And, so far he loves it. I do keep a sweater on him most of the time, and when he goes out to go potty he wears both his winter coat and sweater. His paws/legs do get cold, especially when the snow is up to his tummy. So I am considering something for his little paws. I would suggest to get a waterproof coat for any little dog who lives in an area where there is snow. Marley often likes to play in the snow, and after a while the snow melts and soaks through his coat. However, I found a great coat for him at Old Navy... the best part was it was half price! Anyway, the coat is water resistant but also have a fleece liner to keep him nice and warm. I have also found great doggie sweaters at the dollar store. They only cost a dollar, and they keep Marley warm. And they look cute! Need I say more? (They even have a Santa suit for the little guy! ) |
jackson doesn't seem to mind the cold! granted, i don't think it's reached below 30 degrees yet since i've had him but it has definitely been pretty cold. he shivered at first, especially the first few days i brought him home but now he seems to love it! he does NOT like his little jacket/sweater thing and whenever i put it on him, he literally freezes and won't walk/doesn't move. so i figure if he can stand the cold, he should be fine, it doesn't seem to bother him. and i never leave him out too long. a few times he was shivering but i brought him right in next to our heater or fireplace and he warms right up! |
When the weather gets cold here I put thermal pj's on then layer them with fleece pj's on top. That seems to help, only mine use a puppy pad so they don't have to go outside on cold days. |
