What is the difference between a Parti Yorkie and a Biewer Please enlighten me, I am confused. I read the background on the Biewer yorkies and went to the biewerbci.org. I read on this site that a Biewer must be breed to a Biewer. If I am correct Biewers are not recognized by the AKC but only by the Biewer Clubs. So here is where I get confused. What is a parti and how can it be AKC? When I went to the akc website and read the standard it says any white other than the small mark on the chest is a disqualification. It only gives the choices of blue/gold, blue/tan, black/gold, and black/tan. So how are people registering these dogs? And are they breeding parti to parti? I would love to know I think these dogs are all beautiful. Thanks for the clarification. I did a search and couldn't find it. |
Parti's are yorkies with a color fault and yes if the breeding pair is AKC registered...so may the puppies. This disqualification is in relation to showing. They can't be shown. Some breed parti to parti...and some breed parti to carriers. The latter doesn't always produce parti colored puppies. Biewers originated in Germany and aren't recognized by AKC. They have been accepted into rare breed groups and are allowed to be shown there. |
There's lots of threads, when you do a search go to the bottom of the page, and it gives you the option to do a "google search of Yorkietalk". For some reason the Yorkietalk search won't include words that are too short for example "parti" or too long, for example "pancreatitis" so doing the google search of Yorkietalk is the best way to find related threads. Remember choose Yorkietalk and not the Web. To answer your question, Parti is a nickname given to Yorkshire terriers who have the off colors. They are just registered under a color code number not by the actual name of Parti. |
Thanks, bchgirl. I love all of this info it is so interesting. So, they can't show a parti but it can be registered. So what do you mark on the box for color on the registration papers? Another fun question. What do you get when you breed a parti yorkie to a regular yorkie? Can those pups be shown if they look like the regular yorkie? Hmmm.... |
Also, the Biewer keeps their long tail where the Parti has theirs docked. The Biewer also has a standard for placement of colors, such as on the face, legs, chest etc...but the Parti has no standard for colors. |

Color code for Parti color is 014 and their papers say that they are Yorkshire Terrier "Bl & Gld Prti" |

Breeding Parti to a regular yorkie will produce all parti carriers. Yes, you can show them as long as their white markings are under the 1" max allowed. Some of my carriers were well under the 1" max. |
Biewer terriers are called just that, not biewer yorkshire terriers, they're their own breed. Hopefully one day, they will be AKC.. |
Oh, thank you so much for all your answers. I know a good yorkie usually runs about $900-$3,000. What does a Biewer run? Or a Parti? I know there is the occasional extreme priced pup and price difference due to location, but I would like a general price range. Is a $4,500 Parti overpriced? |
So Glad I am so glad you asked that question lilyorkiemomma. I was going to ask the same thing today but I got called away from my computer. I was talking to my daughter about Biewers and Parti's and she asked me the difference and I told her I would ask the question on here. Thank you:) |

Thanks Nancy. This breeder just told me she paid $6,000 for her Parti yorkies and she thought $4,500 was cheap. I thought Biewers were supposed to be more expensive than Parti yorkies. :) |
One more thing I just thought of but didn't put in my earlier post is that the Biewer is a pretty laid back dog...not so terrier like. Mine aren't barkers, they are very friendly to everyone, not withdrawn or shy like some Yorkies can be. I love the laid back personality of my Biewers...so different than any of the Yorkies I've every owned. As for the price, well, I think the prices are all over the board for Biewers and Parti's but I have found the Parti's to be more. Maybe because they are AKC? My Biewers are dual registered...in Germany and the U.S...but I'm in no hurry to get the Biewer into the AKC. |
