I made a mistake! On Saturday, I took my yorkie to a Yorkie Christmas party. Before the party, I made sure my yorkie had on the appropriate party clothes of course! I also put a bow in her head. Well, when I got home and took the bow off, half her hair came out too! :( I had to go ahead and cut all the hair off. I feel so bad. The bow didn't seem too tight, and my pup never scratched at it not even once! Has anyone been through this? Now I will be scared to put another bow in her head again for a long time :(. Live and learn! |
Sorry, I have never used bows, so I am no help. Maybe it has something to do with puppy vs. adult hair? Don't give uup on bows! They are so pretty, my 2 will have nothing to do with them! I wish they would:p |

Make sure you use latex bands to hold the topknot and then place the bow's band around this, that way it doesn't have to be so tight. You should loosen it a bit with a ragtail comb, so that it's not too tight. Also, if you don't know how to carefully remove a band, I suggest you cut them off, here again you have to be careful; I once cut Joey's hair doing it that way. |
I always use the litle rubberbands that have the material around them(made for little kids), I have to wrap them around 4-5 times but, they don't pull her hair out when I take them out. |
Sorry that happened to your pup! Maybe it is just puppy hair. |
Sammy did that once - she ripped out her band and barrette and it took a huge chunk of hair out. It did finally re-grow. I only use the covered elastics (I have them on my website) because they don't take chunks of hair with them! I find them all over my house, as they do come out quickly with rough play, but I find that if she messes up her hair a little I have to re-do it anyway so I'd rather it just come all the way out and not rip her hair. I also found these bows which have velvet on the clip and so far so good :) Pink Hippo Bows I ordered the infant size. We have a store in a nearby town but they sell them online too. I just can't trust Sammy to be unsupervised with a french clip bow any more  |
1 Attachment(s) I like to use the little snap barrettes that are made for babies. I dont do well with rubber bands, lol. |
1 Attachment(s) Did you try to pull the bow off? You should never use the bow itself to make the topknot. The best way to make a topknot is to first make it with high quality latex grooming bands that won't get stuck in the hair. You then just pop the bow on top or clip it to the base of the topknot if you use a bow on a barrette. You should never try to pull the bands out. The best way to remove the bands is to use band removal scissors with a hook on the end. You snag the band and pull it away from the topknot so you only cut the band, not the hair, when you snip it. Here is a picture of the scissors: |
I don't have that problem with Pippin. He's a boy and i don't bother with the top knot, i tried it once and I thought it looked funny that and he tried to pull it out. |
