Yes, They Can Swim!!!! In case anyone was wondering, Yorkies can swim! I didn't want to find out the way I did, (we flipped over in a canoe) but we now know that he can swim. |
Well, I am glad to here that the yorkie is fine, but what about you and others in the canoe. Did you find out you all could swim too? Glad your mishap had a happy ending. |

I had a yorkie years ago that couldn't swim. We were in a boat at the lake and my husband just kind of dipped her in the water keeping his hands under her and she started to sink like a rock. We now have a bass boat (not my idea) anyway, I went out and immediately bought Mollie a life jacket she loves going on the boat and she really doesn't seem to mind the life jacket at all. |
We found out yorkies could swim when Esme fell in the deep side of the pool during a barbeque at my parents house. ;) I bet you were really scared when the canoe flipped! |
I was taking a bath once and Coco jumped into the water. She sank at first and I pulled her out quickly. It scared me but she wanted to go in the water again! So I let her and low and behold she can swim. |
So happy to hear you all floated and were safe! :p |
I'm sure you were scared, but now when you think back...it is probably so cute!!!! :) I haven't seen Stomper swim yet. I am not sure I want him to go in a pool he can't get out of! |

I'm always happy to hear when they CAN swim - but many panic when they hit the water...... good thing you were right there .....and I'm so glad everything turned out ok when you turned over. For safety reasons will I say this - yorkies can easily drown - it's so sad when we hear about those stories, so it's always good to have a life vest on your yorkie no matter if they can swim or not ....unless someone is right there watching the whole time ....I don't want to sound preachy - I just want ALL our yorkies to be safe around the water. :) but I would invest in a life jacket for your baby - Your canoe trip sounds fun - I miss the days of going down the river in New Bransfels TX on rafts and tubes.... |
There was a post on this forum, I can't remember who right now, but her beloved Yorkie was on her parents boat and the Yorkie saw someone on shore or on another boat passing by(can't remember which) and jumped right out of the boat as if he could walk on water.. The Yorkie went straight down and they weren't able to save him. Needless to say, they were devastated. |
