Yorkie in the City My hubby and I are going to New York City in the spring. I want to bring little Ginger with us, but Adam thinks it would be better to leave her at home. How pet friendly are the shops and restaurants in Manhatten. Can the hotels be trusted to keep your babies safe? Does anyone have any travel tips and experiences they can share? I'd love to see little Ginger Snap take on the big apple! |

i live in the city - some hotels are pets friendly (w hotel on lex) is beautiful and i cant believe they allow pets there. There was a woman at the bar with her dog -sticking out of her bag, nobody said a word to her. But i know that by law you cant bring a dog if they serve food somewhere. We do bring our dog to restaurants with outside area when its warm outside. They usually don't mind and give you even a bowl with water and some treats:-) my dog loves it:-) if you go shopping (not grocery stores) they never say a word. You just have to carry them or keep them in the bag:-) but to tell you the truth - if your dog is quite (like mine:-) you can just put him under the table in the bag - and feed him if he make noises. Just make sure to sneak them by the hostess:-) and hide from the wait stuff:-) when they come back to your table. I know its not "legal" but sometimes i can't help myself. I take him everywhere. Friend of mine brings her dog to a theater. But her dog is so well behaved. Not like mine. Can't keep him quite without treats:-) Good luck!:aimeeyork |

I am "IFy" on what to tell you. But I am just paranoid.... I do not like to leave mine in a Hotel Room if I can avoid it. You won't be able to bring her into Food Places, but other than that you can bring her everywhere ;) |

I live and work in Manhattan and one thing about NY it's very dog friendly..we have some of the best dog runs and of course there's Central Park...I think every dog should experience Central Park...some times on Saturdays I get up at 6:30am get dressed and dress my Bryan warm and we go to cp...heks usually the smallest dog but he plays with the big boys...also you can take you doggie in all the stores but not restaurants...I hope you bring your fur baby to nyc |
Duke grew up in NYC and although we just moved to NJ, we still go to his vet in NYC. It's a great city for dog lovers and dogs. If you're going in the spring then the weather should be nice enough where you can take your furbutts out with you. If it's warm enough, the restaurants would have sidewalk seatings-you'll then be able to enjoy your meal with your furbutts right next to you and getting all the awws and ohhs from strangers... Let us know if you do decide to take your baby with you, maybe we can suggest some good shops and pet friendly places for you. |
thanks for all the advice. How secure are the hotels? I'm paranoid someone will steal my little treasure if I leave her in the hotel room while we eat at a restaurant. I guess I will have to sneak her in. |
I was in Macy's in NYC and someone had there dog in a carrier and someone said anything to them. |
If you are planning to go to any shows or do any of the touristy attractions, both of those are NOT dog friendly. I really wanted to take Rory with me during our last trip, but I thought it wouldn't be the best idea for her to leave her in a hotel room while we went to a show, etc. Ginger may not be bothered by being left in a hotel room though... If you are planning to only shop and eat, especially at places with sidewalk/outdoor seating (I've seen several places that don't allow dogs on the patio if it is actually a part of the restaurant though :(), I think you'd be just fine! :) I live in Atlanta and the malls are more than dog friendly especially with Rory in a carrier. NYC is the same way. Hope that helps! |
I think the only issue is if we decide to go somewhere to eat. I imagine someone breaking into our room and snatching our little baby! I'm thinking about leaving her with my family in NY, but then I think "what if someone breaks in to their house and steal my baby there?" Please tell me I'm being paranoid. Thanks! |
