Another Yorkie I got my Yorkie a few months ago...I feel bad in leaving him alone at home...Which is not that much I leave him alone about 3 times per week for about 6 hours....But my mom is there most of the time with him and my little brother as well.... Do you guys recommend that I get him a companion....I am thinking of getting him one in March once winter is over since I'll be getting a yorkie thats about 4 months old....What do you guys think? Is that alot of time that I leave him alone...I just feel super bad leaving him alone |
I don't think it's a long time generally speaking. Where do you keep him when you are away, and how old is he? |
That's not too bad. Franklin and Maggie are home anywhere from 3-6 hours a day. Franklin has the whole kitchen and Maggie has a whole bedroom. It's not really too long but I have found that having two helps (not when we're gone, obviously - they stay apart) but when we are home, they like the companionship of another dog. |
He is 8months old....He stays in my room. Quote:

If your mom and brother are at home, does he HAVE to stay in your room? If he could get out and socialize with the rest of the family, he wouldn't be "alone". Of course, if they don't want to take responsibility for his safety, that's another matter. Having a buddy would be far more beneficial than being alone, IMHO. |
I say if you have the capability to get another dog and afford the extra cost for vet care etc, get another for companionship is good but if not, 6 hours 3 times a week is not too bad if you walk or exercise before hand and after the fact. Then your pup can just sleep for the duration that your being away. |
Well when my mom is home she feeds him and lets him out, but she does not take care of him like me....Yes when my brother is with him he socializes with him alot.....When they are home he walks all over the house.. Quote:

You can try a daycare:aimeeyork |
doggy daycare sounds like a good idea, but I hear they can be expensive but it may be worth it.:) |
Ok, I'm all for having as many Yorkies as you can. More Yorkies more hugs, kisses and love. A friend will be a lot of fun for your boy. But please look at all the aspects before adding another member to your household. 2 dogs = twice the food, treats and heartworm meds. Twice the time to groom, walk, train and play with. Twice the vet bills for annual exams and once they get old proper geriatric care. Perhaps, for right now, doggie day care would be a good alternative for him to get out and play with other dogs. Or try to hook up with some other small dog owners in your area and do play dates. However, if you decide on getting a second...please be sure to posts pictures of them having fun together. :D |
This is why I let my son have my one female yorkie. He and his fiance work, plus she goes to school, and they didn't like leaving Teddy by himself, so, they asked for my little girl(his littermate). It was hard letting her go, but, my son and his fiance are so good to their little guy(treat him like royalty) so, I said give it a try. They fell in love with her, so, they kept her and I bought me a biewer. As littermates, they were always together(they were named Romeo and Juliet by the breeder):) If you can afford another one ,go for it..:) |
I really like the two puppy ensemble. They play with each other. Keep each other warm. One for each lap. You do have to be able to afford the extra vet bills, vaccinations, license fees, etc. |
