Question about teething I noticed Strawberry was missing one tooth the other day and then today I checked and she was missing the whole bottom row!! Ahh! Poor baby. She is 5 1/2 months old so I am sure it is time for her to lose teeth and get new ones. My question is: how long will it take to get her new teeth in? And: should I feed her something other then hard crunchies? She seems to be eating them whole! They are small so I am not worried about choking, but I feel so horrible when I think about her not having many teeth at the moment. :( Her littermate is missing just a few on the bottom, but is not a big chewer like Strawb is. It is normal to lose so many at a time, right? Any advice or experiences with teething would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. :) |
Wow! She lost a whole bunch at one time! Poor thing, I'm sure it's no fun to eat right now! For the time being, maybe try adding some water to her food if she's having a hard time chewing it. Or you could try canned food (but they love it so much it's hard to get them to go back to dry food after that!). She should be getting new teeth in really soon. With Miles, it seemed like it happened over night! Good luck! :) |
While Gracie Ruth was teething I would put some of her kibble in a sandwich bag and cracked it with a hammer. That way it didn't change what she ate, she could eat it without a lot of effort and she went right back to it once she was done teething. Of course Boo thought she was getting some "extra special" so during that time I had to crack enough kibble for both of them. I suppose I'll have to crack some for everyone again when Yogi starts teething. :D Spoiled? Not my babies, they still have to chew it themselves. Oh, also, I found that a frozen wash cloth for her to chew on seemed to give her some relief. They also make teething toys that you freeze to give them something cold to chew on. |
Aww poor girl. Sounds like my baby. She lost 4 bottom teeth and two top teeth within like 2 days! I felt so bad for her. I wet her kibble with water and added a spoonful of wet food. Her teeth seemed to come in within two days, she liked she chew on anything she could get. I also have a PetStages toy that I'm able to freeze and she seemed to like that. For the two days they came in she was very tired and didn't wanna play too much. I think it was really really her. Good luck! |
we didnt do anything for them when ours lost their teeth they never acted like they hurt them and they were eating fine. the only thing i did was i had to yank one out with some pliers because the other one was coming in and that one was just hanging on by a thread it seemed. other than that it didnt take too long probably no more than a week or so for the new teeth to come in. |
Thanks everyone for the great ideas and helpful stories! She really enjoyed chewing on a cold carrot today and I will try the frozen washcloth tomorrow. She was so annoying today. She was very needy and whimpering all day long to be with me! Not good when I have customers in the store! :( But...this too shall pass! ;) Thanks again everyone! You have eased my mind! |
