How long until your yorkie coat turned fully? My Ella is 10 months old and has about an inch of silver growing out. It looks like she needs to dye her roots...very weird looking. It makes me laugh. I'm sure if I shaved her she'd probably be all silver...so anyway, I was wondering how long until other people's yorkies turned all the way??? :D |
Pixie is 3 and just started a few months ago to start getting some silver in her coat. Cali is still black at 3 1/2 and Roxie is 14 months and just starting to show a little bit of silver in her roots. |
My guy's head is silver, and he looks gray.....this is what I've always heard: The head will change from black to silver then gold. By year three a Yorkshire terrier should reach it's mature colors.(there are exceptions to every rule) You can kinda see Mac in my avatar pic. and how silver/gray his head is. He always had silver roots(got him at 8weeks) and as his hair grew so did the silver. He is 2yrs 4mos. and I think :questione I see some tan starting to show...I like him silver..he looks like a distinguished, handsome, little man...lol |
miss buffey is still tan and black at 15 months old...she has like 5 silver hairs lol bentley broke silver white on his head very early and it has turned to tan already...he is just starting to break color on his back and he is 14 months |
Turk had silver on top at 14 weeks. He's going on 6 mos and he has a good incho of silver out growth. I didn't know that they would turn from silver to gold. Interesting... |
Ziggy is going on two and is still black with silver roots. His head went to silver and is now more tan. |
so generally you can see from when they are a puppy how their coat is going to change or not really? i'm just curious! does it seem when your puppy is more black/tan at around 10 weeks, it pretty much stays that way or does the silver just gradually come in? lol, sorry, i'm new to yorkies! |
WOW this is very interesting to me.My Bella is black and silver, body is mostly black with sliver on her hips and front legs and the top of her head. She is only a year old,,, so should I expect to see more color change??? |
Sumo is 4 months old and he started getting silver at 8 weeks. now he has a ton of silver on his head and some of the roots are starting to get tan. is this way early?!?! his body's roots are now silvery :) |
This is from different site I go to I think all puppies change at different rates as they mature. Maybe, Yorkies are "like a box of chocolates...you never know what your gonna get!" lol Colors Although Yorkie pups are born black and tan, their color changes as they mature. The ideal coat color for adult Yorkies is blue (actually a deep, steel gray; no silver, black, or bronze mixed in) and tan. The AKC also recognizes black instead of blue and gold instead of tan. Bottom line? Your Yorkie can be any of these color combinations: blue and gold, blue and tan, black and gold, and black and tan. Not only are these colors the only accepted colors, but they also must appear in the accepted places: On the body: Blue or black from the back of the neck to the tip of the tail. On the head: Golden tan or gold on the fall, with a richer tan/gold on the ears and muzzle. On the chest and legs: Tan or gold on the chest. On the legs, the tan/gold should go no higher than the elbow on the front legs and the stifle on the hind legs. Their coats are continually changing shades of color. I have found that the ones that are going to stay smaller seem to start getting their grey color faster. |
1 Attachment(s) My baby will be 8 mo. old in 2 days, and she started turning quite awhile ago....it started maybe when she was 10 or 12 weeks. Now, her back is silvery with about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of puppy cottony black on the tips. I think the black looks kind of funny and it's so cottony, not like the silvery hair at all, that it tangles easier. So, the last time I went to the groomers, I had them trim ~1/4 inch all over (she said she couldn't do that with the clippers, that it would make her hair shorter than I wanted, so I asked her to hold the hair out and trim it like humans get haircuts! :D) So, we're slowly working the puppy black off...I don't want to just do it all at once since I want her to stay in a long coat. Also, her head has black tips, silvery white centers, and champagne blond roots. I had her trim up her head too, but there are some spots where the black still goes all the way down to the root, so it will take a lot longer. Here is a picture we took of her at 7 mo. old so you can see what she looked like before she had her trim (see the silvery blue in the center of her back and the champagne at her top know?): |
Chloe is 8 months old and her body is still black but it looks like it is starting to lighten at the roots to more of a deep dark grey color. Her face is still a reddish gold color with not much change , and the top of her head is turning a light tan , no silver yet , and still has a few black hairs mixed in. I have no idea what she will turn out like. I have seen pictures of her sisters and I assume she will look alot like them. |
One of mine was 1 1/2 before every really breaking color. The others were around a year, maybe less by the time theirs changed. |
Finnigan is around 1 & 1/2 and his head started turning silver at about 8 months and at 1 the gold started coming in behind the silver. His body is still black, but sometimes I can see the blue/silver starting to grow in. |
Your baby looks beautiful in that picture! My baby is 5 1/2 mo and very similar coloring. Where did you get that adorable crown for her? She's a princess. |
