New York Brewer Yorkies I am searching for a yorkie puppy to buy and got a lead on a variety of yorkie that originated in New York called a Brewer Yorkie? I was told that this little guy is 12 weeks old and weighs 8 lbs. which is above the show weight standard. I was also told that these yorkies are black, tan, and white.......does anyone have any information about this variety of yorkie? |
They are called Biewers, pronounced like "biva," and they DID NOT originate in New York. You can do a search on YT for Biewer and it will come up with all the info. Sorry, can't elaborate much more on my Blackberry. Also, 8lbs at 12 weeks is HUGE and completely not standard. |
Thanks! Thanks for the info. |
You can pm me, I have 2 of them, and there are also some breeders of the biewer in here(scrapindee is one of them). They pronounce it 2 ways(depending on what part of germany you're from), it can be pronounced beaver or bevair, I pronounce it beaver as that's how my german boy pronounces it..They have a very good personlity, and are very loveable |
Biewers orginated in Germany and have only been imported in the US since 2005. There are several biewer breed clubs located within the US. A german breeder is a member here also. He posts under biewerbaby. I agree 8 pounds at 3 months is really big puppy for this breed. Research your breeder carefully. PS The one with the white face in my avatar is a biewer. |
I don't think it would be a Biewer at 8# and 12 weeks. Using the weght chart, it means the dog would be over 16# as an adult. Please search here on YT on Biewer, and Google Biewer as well. The picture in my avatar is a full Biewer at about 6 months and 4.5#. The standard 4-7 or 4-8 means ADULT weight. |

The standard size for a Biewer is the same as it is for a Yorkie. The standards are the same except for color.. everything else, including size, remains the same. I can't imagine a 12 wk old 8 lb puppy either.. -Diana :animal-pa - |

Biewer Breeder I received the original information from the groomer but after talking with the breeder, Danita Giles, in Vinita, OK she told me that the puppy was 6 months old and weighed 8 lbs. That still seems too big. Now I have a lead on a standard yorkie puppy that is 5 months old and weighs 4 to 5 pounds. Does that sound more like what one should weigh. Her owner told me that she is also not potty trained and I know that it can be difficult to train a yorkie in the first place. What is your opinions on that? This will be my first yorkie and I want to get a good one. I would also like to know what everyone uses to bathe, feed, etc. their yorkies. I greatly appreciate everyone's help! Thanks! I am not a Yorkie expert but even that seems like a larger yorkie for the age. Check on the forum before you buy from someone. There are several threads on YT which talks about red flags, questions to ask, etc. |
