Time for being spade? Well, little Miss Luna has turned into Miss. "Hump"erella! I have heard that female dogs do, do this as well as males. I was wondering though, if this is a clear sign that her hormones are "raging" and if it meant she was ready to be spade? She is now a little over 5 months old. Thank you all! |
My vet says the sooner the better to get spayed/neutered. He recommends it before they go on their first heat! |
Hormones? Hi, My baby Gracie started that behavior at about 4 months of age.........probably a dominance issue........she only "performed" this behavior on her moose and cow toys that have a head, body and legs...She will be 9 months on Valentine's Day...and I had her spayed the week after Xmas.........the behavior continues........but only with her toys....not with other pets in the home............spaying is important, I would have had her spayed at 6 months instead of 7, but did not want to stress her during the holidays........let your vet be your guide |
Thanks all. I am so afraid to spade Luna since she is so small. I know that some vets aren't careful with anesthetics and that thought alone scares me so much! I will call my breeder to ask her for her opinion. She told me to call her when it was time to spade Luna because of the anesthetics issue, so that she could give me the number to the reliable vet she knows. |
It is the best decision to have her spayed. Give your breeder a call about who is best in your area. From all I have read or heard it is best to do it around 6 month. Good luck, One thing I have learned having yorkies they are tufff little furbabies and with good care and a lot of love they can make it through a lot...................Cindy |
I was so terrified to get Mia spayed but did a little research and found out the horrible things that can happen to females who aren't spayed. I also spoke to several vets and those problems such as mammary tumors and pyometria are not just a possibility, they are very real and deadly, not to mention painful. I just knew I had to put her above my own selfish worries. Mia is still under 2 lbs at a year old and she did just fine, you just have to do your research on toy dogs and anesthesia, as well as ask lots of questions of your vet! I just added sections about these very things to my website for more info if you want to check it out: http://www.mylittlemia.com/spaying.html and http://www.mylittlemia.com/yorkiecare.html#anchor_48. I know its so scary but afterwards you will feel so much better! |
Trying to decide about spaying.... I have a 7 lb. female cutie.....I 'm really anxious about getting her spayed. I took her to the vet last week for her shots (she's a little over a year old) and she was shivering, felt warm and was very sleepy the next day. My husband called the vet and he said it was a reaction to the shots. Now I've noticed that she has a lump at the injection site...... Now I'm hearing horror stories about anesthesia and yorkies and I'm horrified. She has had one heat cycle so I have to decide pretty soon.....any advice ? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom :) |
I agree you need to do it soon because if you wait until after her second heat cycle she will still be at high risk for unspayed female diseases like pyometria and mammary cancer. Mia is only 1.5 lbs and she made it through just fine, I know how you feel though I was worried sick. But its just something I knew I had to do because I didn't want to be selfish not spaying her when it really is the best thing for her. For boys its different, there aren't as many health benefits and its really to end marking behavior. But for females its really important for the life of the dog. JMO! |
I forgot to mention that you should definitely do the presurgical bloodwork. Its a little bit extra in cost but really worth it because it can save your dogs life if they are prone to reacting badly to the anesthesia. |
Thank you Brittany and Mia.... 1 Attachment(s) Thank you so much for responding. I'm going to talk to my vet about getting Noelle spayed.....and definitely have the bloodwork done first. She is such a little sweetheart. Does Mia go crazy licking your face ? Noelle does this to me and my husband, and it's almost like she's cleaning us. Any thoughts ??? By the way, I checked out Mia's website and she is simply adorable !!! I'll attach a picture of Noelle..... Thanks again, Cecile.....and Noelle :) |
