How Cold is Too Cold? Johnny and I look forward to our walks but I am wondering how cold is too cold for a walk and how long should a walk last when it's in the 20's or 30's? Are boots a plus or a minus when there's snow? He's got some different weights of coats to wear but no boots-yet. |
I think the booties are good for him if there is snow. I would definitely get some & let him wear them when you take him out.....definitely bundle him up in one of his coats. |
I agree, booties are a good thing, however, some dogs just never take to them, so give it plenty of time for him to get use to them. Just snow is not so hard on their feet, it's the ice and salt that can cut their pads. If after you've been out for 5-10 minutes, stick your hand under his coat if he feels warm, isn't shivering and still seems happy to be out you'll probably be ok to stay out for a little longer. Let him be your guide, if he gets cold or doesn't like being out in the cold his body language will let you know. Also be sure to keep him well hydrated. It's just as important in the winter as the summer. |
Biggie typically lets me know when he is cold he'll shiver or guide me back home. |
