What a scary moment today... or just a bad mommy. My grandmother lives with me. She has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. I put her medicines in a weekly pill reminder case every week. It usually ends up being on Sundays. Well, yesterday when I fixed all her meds/vitamins, etc, I though I had lost a pill. It was one of her Alzheimer's meds, Razadyne ER, that her doctor put her on along with Aricept. Anyways, I looked for it all around and never did see it, so I thought maybe I just thought I lost one. This a.m. Maximus was in my bathroom and when my oldest son went in to play with him, he rushed out. Well, Jonathan put him back in the bathroom and was playing with him, then I heard, "momma, Maximus is chewing on something, hurry". By the time I got there, he had gotten it away from him, but not before he got some meds in his mouth (it is a capsule). I immediately called the vet and they just said to watch him for any unusual signs. So far, so good. He has been doing fine. One of the side effects of the meds is loss of appetite, so the vet recommended I give him some canned chicken. I ended up boiling him some chicken tenders. He gobbled it up. He has been using the bathroom fine, eating and drinking fine. Please say a little prayer for him though, just in case. I love that little booger and I would be devastated if something happened to him, especially of my negligence. My dh got onto me too for not finding the med after I lost it, not only because of Maximus, but because of our human kids too. I feel terrible about it, but I guarantee it won't happen again. I'm so thankful that it didn't turn into anything more terrible. |
Praying for all to be well! I can imagine how scared you must have been! My shih-tzu found an Ibuprofen once and chewed on it. I was terrified, but luckily got it away before any was really ingested. Saying prayers that he will be fine!:hands::hands::hands: |
I am happy that everything seems to be doing fine. These little guys can give us all a good scare sometimes. Just happy that yours is okay. |
That must have been terrifying! Poor you, too, you were just being a good granddaughter and then to have that scare and your DH make you feel crummy about it (as if you weren't beating yourself up about it already!) I hope he wasn't too hard on you, I'm sure he was just scared, too! I'll be thinking of that absolutely adorable (and mischevious Maximus) and hoping all remains well! |
Saying a prayer for your lil booger. I'm sure he will be fine. Try not to be so hard on yourself. You didn't mean to lose the pill. It was an accident. |
I will say a prayer for your little one. I know it's hard, but try not to beat yourself up over this - accidents happen. xxx xxx |
The same thing happened to me after I got Kali. My great-grandfather lives with us and he takes Seroquel at night. He can't see so well and dropped the pill. Luckily though, Kali didn't like the taste and spit it out immediately. It can just make your heart stop, I know. I've said a little prayer for your little one. |
thinking about your little one.....I'm sure he's going to be just fine...and you're NOT a bad mommy...because you dropped a pill!! Could have happened to anyone! |
I hope your little guy is okay, the same thing happened to me when chester was not even a year old, I came home and he seemed lethergic and then I noticed my antidepressant effexor at the time, I was so upset. I took him to the emergency vet and I was just crying and they kept him overnite and he was fine thank god. Dont beat yourself up it can happen no matter how careful we all are. |
That is really scary. I was taking my meds one day and I dropped the whole bottle on the floor. Of course Chip was right there. I pushed him away as fast as I could and scrambled to pick up all of the pills... but I thought he had gotten one. I used hydrogen peroxide and induced vomiting just in case. Turns out, he didn't get one, but I'm glad I still did it before it was too late. |
Oh how very scary. I am so glad that Maximum is ok. |
