For anyone who has to leave their baby alone

Just wonering who else (if anyone) works a 9-5 and has to leave their puppy/dog alone for that long.

Mine is 9 weeks old & I swear it breaks my heart to the point of tears every morning.

I'm counting down the hours now to go home to him & cuddle him.
He is my first puppy EVER so maybe that's why I'm so attached...I don't know....I just love him as if he were my own child. I'm so glad I decided to get a Yorkie...he is super loveable! He loves attention, loves being cuddled, & he loves climbing on my lap to fall asleep....he is such a great puppy.

Aw, your sweetie is so adorable!

I haven't had to leave Kingston alone yet, but this coming month I'm going to be working full-time and going to school full-time (bleck!) and my bf is also going to be working full-time :(

We are unsure what we're going to do... we may get him a little girlfriend to play with (this was my secret evil plan all along according to DBF, muhaha :p) or else let him spend the day with my dad who offered to be his babysitter lol. He also has a dog that gets lonely so this may work out for the best of both worlds.

I'm not sure what you could really do :( You have to work to make a living, it's just hard to explain that to a cute little puppy :p I'd make sure he has plenty of room to play (maybe a closed of kitchen with protective baby gates?) and food, water, and TOYS! Then when you get home be sure to give him extra lovin' ;)

Good luck :)

Yup, Im a worker with 2 stay at home boys! They are a little over 3 years old and do good at home for the most part. I wish I did things a bit different during their 'growing up' stage, but overall they are good boys who know the routine at this point. :) I highly recommend you keep your pup in an X-pen when you are at work, at least until he is housebroken and past the teething phase. My boys DESTROYED my kitchen and I didnt know about xpens back then. They chewed my cabinets, baseboards and even holes in the WALL!! An x-pen would have kept them from having access to those things.

These days they are fine when I leave in the morning for work, they know the drill, they get a treat, I put the radio on for them and off I go. But if I DARE come home and leave again they howl to the moon, its the saddest noise EVER! I hate going home and going back out immediately because of that. I try to do everything i need to do straight from work so I dont have to leave them again once I get home for the night.

oh yeah and that missing him to the point of tears does not go away. I hate leaving my boys for even the day at work. I love coming home to them, being with them and I cannot sleep without them (even though lately it seems I cannot sleep with them either LOL)

Thanks for the replies.
I feel better today....although he was crying like crazy when we left, hubby set up the webcam this morning, and now I can monitor him from work....he is currently sound asleep. I don't know how to help the tears though....when we were leaving, they starting flowing like waterfalls......

You have come to the right place for support. We have all been threw
it, at one time or another.
I didn't find YT until much later in Bud's life. Wish I had found it sooner
I know it would have relieved the stress that came with leaving a puppy
for 9hrs daily. I new nothing about x-pens and didn't use a play pen because
my daughter's minpin just climbed up the mesh and got out.
We worked threw it, 13 throw rugs later. LOL
He'll be 5 soon and it still breaks my heart to leave that sweet boy.
He's always there right in front of the door when I open it at night.
I can't wait to get home to see him every night.

oh that's nice....they say they sleep almost all day, so he will be good and ready for you when you get home.

Do the folks at work think you're crazy???

Jezebel Dutches 12-09-2008 07:24 AM

I graduated from college May 2008 and in August I started working full time. My Jezebel had never been left alone for more than a couple of hours at a time, but now she's home all day without me. I breaks my heart every morning when I leave her. When I walk out the door she gives me that "pleases dont leave me today Look." I hate it and think about her constantly during the day.

9 weeks is pretty young to be left for so long. My puppy is 3 months old (15 weeks) and you're suppose to add an hour to their age (3 months = 4 hours okay alone) but my puppy is fine for longer.

With younger puppies you really should be there more often that's why I knew right now is the right time for me to have a puppy because I live 15 minutes away from work so I go home during lunch. My puppy is hardly ever alone for more than 4 hours and he eats regularly. You have to be very careful with younger puppies.

RockysMommy08 12-09-2008 07:49 AM

No one here at work really knows what I am going through, but they probably would think I am nuts! A few have dogs, but some don't...those that don't probably wouldn't understand. If I didn't have 1, I probably would think someone like me would be crazy, too.

The webcam thing is great though! I get to see him, so I know right now he is safe. Still breaks my heart to think that the next morning, I will hear him cry like that again.

Last night when I got it, he had the saddest look on his face.....he followed me everywhere I went. When I sat down, he wanted to be picked up.....so I did.....hubby says I spoil him too much, but I can't help it.

Question: is it normal for puppies to always look sad? I don't know, sometimes I see dogs on here would look like they are smiling....mine always has a sad face......is it possible that he is always really sad even when playing, or is that just the way their face is supposed to be? Not sure if that makes any sense....

Biggie is at home all day from 7AM-4PM. He doesn't get in any trouble..typically he sleeps all day when I have the day off, so I assume that is what he does when we are at work. Although he is potty trained, We do leave a potty pad for him in our bathroom to use in case he feels like he has to go. He uses it sometimes, but refuses to use it when we are home..he would rather go outside to do his business.
It is hard leaving them at home..esp. when they are little. I can relate to how you feel. I work 2 minutes from home and until he was 6 months old I would go home 2-3 times a day to see him, feed him and let him out to potty. I would worry and miss him so much. Now I don't worry...I just plain miss him. I get so excited every day after work to run home and see.

Babies home alone all day!

I have 2 baby girls that will be nine weeks this friday. They are home all day by themselves. I keep them in my tiny hall bathroom with potty pads, food, water, a softside kennel, a bed, & blankets. They do fine, but are sure glad to see me when I get home in the evening! Sometimes they cry a little during the night if they haven't gotten enough exercise during the evening hours and I have to let them run in the kitchen for a while. It may help that there are two of them-they fight & play & discustingly one of them has started shredding poo all over the floor-but that is another issue all together.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork
