Does anyone Walk their Yorkie on a Treadmill? 1 Attachment(s) Just wondering if anyone else walks their little one on the treadmill and would like to know at what speed and how long. Our little teapot weighs 8.5 pounds and he is always full of energy. An hour of playtime is not enough for him. During the winter, in the morning and then again in the evenings, We walk him 15-20 minutes on the treadmill at like 2.5mph. Attached is a recent pic of him...haven't been on the forum in a while. |
I have been thinking about walking Josie on the treadmill, she is always full of energy, too!! How did you introduce your little guy to it? Did you just put him on and start it up.....how did you start? |
my girls walk on the tread mill together for 45 min which is like a mile and a half in the morning and also at night. |
He's so cute! |

It took some work. I first intorduced him to it by getting him to sit on it and fed him tons of treats. Once he would get on it and sit on it happily, we moved to walking him. My husband stood in front of the treadmill with yummy chicken and I had him on his leash and walked with him at like 1.0mph..very show. He resisted at first..but was determined to get the chicken. We would have him on for like a minute, then 2, then more...We would jump up like crazy each time we got off the treadmill and went straight to get him a high value treat. We continued this method every day and went longer and longer..now he just jumps right on it and walks with me without a leash. He loves it! Attached is an old pic we took of him on the treadmill when we were training him to walk on it. |

We put ours on it on low speed but they were scared of it and didnt like it |
I walk on the treadmill with them and both tumi and gracie walk with me. they don't get off til i get off. they are 3.5lb and 4lb and they can walk forever if i let them. I do it longer since i need to drain their engergy so they will be tired and sleepy while i am at work. ;) |
