Pain relief My yorkie had legg perthes surgery 2 years ago. Last year wasn't so bad,but we lived in a place with carpet,and this year we've moved to a place where there's hardwood floors,and I think the fact that their colder on her is definetly making a difference.She hobbles around all day. I have Bayer baby asprin orange flavored 81mg. and she weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I read about people giving their yorkies baby asprin for pain,but I have no idea how much to give her. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.Thanks! |
I am not exactly sure on the amount but if you look up the post " Just can't win " someone mentioned in there the amount to give because I was giving Tempra for my baby and that is no good, someone recommended the aspirin so check it out! Also I notice that on the tile floor I have at home it is very difficult for Stormy to walk on and she has a LP. I believe it could be that it is a little more slippery. It is possible to put some rugs down that she can walk on inside? Good luck! |

I would just make sure that you give the aspirin with food or use coated aspirin because it can be just as hard on our furbaby's stomach as it is on ours. I'd say 10mg/kg just to be safe I went with the low end. It'll be hard to get exactly what you need but a little less than half a tab would be fine for your baby. She needs around 30mg. |
Hardwood floors have no "give" to them, so there is no cushioning for her when she walks or jumps. Maybe you should start giving her a glucosamine complex. That stuff can really do wonders for yorkies...humans too. I give Libby Flexicose which is a liquid complex and I get it on Ebay. Libby has LP and used to limp quite a bit and since having her on Flexicose, she doesn't show any signs of any problems. |
I cant find the post on the 'just cant win';maybe if I knew who posted it-? I appreciate the other responses.I will have to try the other advice,too. Pook is my second child-cant stand to see her in pain. |

Just got back from the vet with my toy fox terrier because of joint pain. I had been giving a baby aspirin a day to help w/pain but my vet didn't want that to be long term due to stomach upset. He did say a joint supplement and specialized food for joint health would do well for a younger dog but probably not for Dizzy as he's older and our main goal is to ease his pain. He started him on "Metacam" a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. We also have new wood floors and I think they definitely add to his discomfort. No give, no traction and cold. I try to keep rugs and space heaters where he spends most of his time. I know how you feel, it hurts me to see him hurt. |
