Bitter Cold The bitter cold is taking its toll on Izze. We got our first snow and drastic temperature drop this week...and poor Izze is not taking it well. I clear the snow and shovel the grass so there will be room for her to go potty...but the bitter cold is making her limp! I think that it hurts her little front legs... What can i do to make this better? She wears her coat, but it does not cover her legs...and the wind goes through my jeans and it hurts my legs...but none of my other dogs, including my chihuahua, seem to have a problem with it. I am willing to pad train her, however, i'd eventually want her to move the pad over to the bathroom. My mom doesn't like it all over the house...but she is willing to accept it when it is cold, but not warm. So it would be wise to get her used to using it in the bathroom. How can I do this? thanks! |
Well, unfortunately I don't have an answer for you, I kinda have the same problem. I live in the Chicago area and the frigid temperatures have hit here too. Mine all have sweaters and coats, but still hop around, lifting one leg then the other. The good news, they do their business really fast so they can get back inside! |
Thanks for the response...but little Isabella does this when she's inside the house! Like all her muscles are sore or stiff. So it's more an after-effect? I feel so bad for her! |
Stormy is paper/pad trained, I've only had her go outside poop once. It seems like she doesn't know how to go potty outside. At first I had a hard time getting her to go on the paper/pad but I would suggest that you place the paper/pad in the area you would like her to use. I would put her poop on the pad and let her sniff it. If Stormy went pee in a certain area I would place the paper/pad in that spot so it would soak up and then bring her over and let her smell it. After some practice and patience she would just go and do her business there. I will probably have to reteach her once I bring her home since she is just going where ever she feels like at my moms and my mom says so be it since she is ill! lol I believe theres a spray that you can spray on the pads that may attract her to use it? |
