Tick bite! Hi all! My baby boy, Louis (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) had a tick about a month ago on his head. I carefully removed it with tweezers and cleaned the area with antibacterial products. The hair immediatly around the bite has fallen out and where the bit was has become a tiny raised bump that he itches at. I know I got out the head, what could this be? Do I need to go to the vet? Has this happened to any one else's dog? |
Valentino had a tick bite as well that resulted in a raised bump at the bite site for about 5 days...slowly going down each day. I contacted my vet and they said to watch for any signs of lethargic behavior and that they could test him a few months after the bite if they suspected that he had lyme disease. They also told me to give a bath with flea and tick shampoo because it could kill any other small ones that may be on him... it has been about two months now and he is just fine. Hope this helps. |
Thanks...see, with Louis there have been no behavioral changes, and its been over a month and the tiny raised bump is there - and definitely itchy too him... |
When I adopted Max (our sheltie) he was infested with Ticks!! to the point they were falling off a couple at a time because they were full!... all I did was try to remove every one myself...did the flea and tick shampoo...and afterwards went to the vet . Vet found one tick left inside his ear, removed it and put frontline and sent us on our way. Never even mentioned lyme disease. And he is a very healthy puppy now at a year and a few months. Oh and check yourself also for ticks... I found one on my scalp ! |

It really is. I nearly screamed when I first saw one. I did'nt know what it was! I had a little puppy in my arms and it jumped on my bed . ewww .. lol |

We had a horrible two months go-round with pesky brown dog ticks. It only takes one enlarged female to lay her 5,000+ eggs and you have a full blown problem. We've lived in this same house for over twenty years and never had any ticks before. Our theory is that we hired a new lawn service and because they do not wash their mowers between jobs they brought a bunch of ticks to our yard. We had to have our yard professionally sprayed in a two week interval. Plus I sprayed around in the house with a spray recommended by my vet. Then to top it all off we had to change from Advantix to a different medication for the dogs. I think they were immune to the Advantix. It was a nightmare. I was finding engorged ticks in my bed and we picked up many many tiny crawling juvenile ticks. We put them in rubbing alcohol to kill them. I think we have finally licked the problem. |
O yes I dont miss the tweezers and pill bottle full of alcohol! |

I removed a tick from Piper's back this past summer when she was only 12 weeks old. I too made sure that the tick was removed head and all. She had this bump that was about the size of a pea for a couple months. I showed the vet and he wasn't conerned he said it was just an allergic reaction to the bite. Now there isn't any bump at all. I live just 2 towns away from Lyme and ticks are a big problem in this area but only the tiny deer ticks can give you Lyme disease. My first yorkie had Lyme 3 times and I have had it 2 times. It's quite common here. |
Thanks, everyone! That is so funny, I actually have a tick-bourne immune deficiency from a bite I got when I was a kid - so I guess thats why I am so paranoid. I am bringing Louis in for testing tomorrow and I am sure its as you described above, an allergic reaction to the bite. His little bump is smaller then a pea and there is absolutely no other symptoms. Still, rather be safe then sorry! If I had done a course of antibiotics as a kid after that bite, I might be healthier! Lesson LEARNED! |
