Ralphie is getting neutered & having his hernia repaired right now...so nervous!!! I dropped my little baby boy off at the vet this morning and I will admit that when I got to the car I boo-hooed a little bit :cry8::cry8: I was soo nervous just to get him neutered but then we found out he had a hernia too :eek: Now I am overly freaked out. I hated leaving him there and even though there were several people standing by when I gave him to the vet tech, I gave him a big smooch on his little mouth. I haven't even been home very long and it feels so empty and lonely without him. I work from home all day and he is my little shadow. I know everyone has been through this before and I am trying to think positive but my stupid brain keeps thinking up all kinds of terrible things. I could definitely use some prayers for my sweet little baby. Thanks!!! |
Awwwww poor Ralphie. It's always so hard leaving them at the vet's. Your doing a good thing for Ralphie, protecing him also from several types of cancer in having him neutered. I am sure both proceedures will go well. Hope the day flies by for you and he's home before you know it. Hugs, |
I was just thinking about you... I'd be a nervouse wreck too! Just to see my baby getting blood drawn scares me! Hope everything goes well!!! I'm sure it will be just fine! Tell Ralphie to Get Well Soon from us here at YT!!!! :getwellso I'm sure you'll spoil him extra after this!!!! |

Awww, thanks for thinking of us! I am definitely a nervous wreck in case you couldn't already tell :( Thanks for the well wishes, and yes...he will certainly be getting spoiled (if it is possible to spoil him more than he already is, the little stinker :)) |
Poor little Ralphie, I know the neuter is a simple procedure and some types of hernias are quite simple as well. It won't do any good to say "don't worry too much" because that's what we all do. Really though he will be fine. Joan |
I holding good thoughts and prayers for Ralphie |
Let us know how your guy is doing!! Thoughts and prayers are with you both! He will do GREAT. I know it!!! |
sending ralphie (and you!!!) good thoughts that this day will fly by! :D:animal-pa |
He made it! :):) I just talked to the Dr. and he said that there was good news and bad news. Bad news...there were actually 2 hernias!! Good news...he found them and removed them both for the price of one. He said they were both only about the size of a pea. Also, he said that he only had to use stitches for the hernia, not the neuter. How is it possible to not need stitches for a neuter?? I will ask when I pick him up. Thank you all sooooo very much for the support. You have no idea how much it was needed and seriously appreciated!!!!!! I can bring little Ralphinater home soon...yay!! |

I am so happy to hear he is OK. Let us know whats up w/ not needing stitches for the neuter - I have never heard that either, but fewer stitches can't be a bad thing. I knew he would do great! |
Oh I so feel your pain. I went through this with Abby last month and it was so hard to hand her over and walk out :( I'm sure Ralphie will be fine. Abby came home that afternoon and acted like nothing had happened! She's done wonderfully :) Hugs for you and Ralphie!! Tammy Oh I see that he is FINE! YAY!! :cheer: |

Thanks for all the help Hilary, I know you could literally feel my panic through all of our messages...ha ha!! |
I'm glad it's all over for both of you. Perhaps he used the liquid stiches. Holds like iron too, I'm told. Yayyyyy for Ralphie. Have a speedy recovery little guy. |

I wish loving them was enough to be a good mommy, but the truth is, its a lot of emotional and physical work! And I am proud you didn't let your fear keep you from taking care of ralphie and getting him neutered! He will be so much healthier now! |

You are right about the emotional and physical aspect of loving these babies. It can be soo rewarding and soo terrifying all at the same time. I am so happy that his surgery is behind him. The vet told me that I was more knowledgeable than anyone he has ever had in there. He asked me if I was studying to be a vet, LOL. I said no...I am just overly obsessed and in love with my dog and I have Yorkie Talk!!:) |
Oh yeah, the vet also told me that i was a bit neurotic :D:D:D But that it was a good thing. Ha Ha!!! As if I needed him to tell me that. |
I know - I am 'obsessed, neurotic mommy' too! I was in with my dad and the vet when we did Louis' titer tests and my dad asked what a titer test was and I explained it to him - and the vet was like "Wow! Can you come and be my assistant!?!" Its rewarding to know our obsession pays off in knowledge that we can share with others and help others out with... I am the QUEEN of diarrhea knowledge because of Louis and I know TONS about hypoglycemia and immune deficiency because of Ella!! I made her a little bandage out of gauze and medical tape and coated the paw pad in Calendula, which is a homeopathic antibacterial, healing ointment...and I am sure she will be ok. I am buying her booties though!! LOL!! |
Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see her in her little booties...as if she isn't precious enough ;);) |
Is Ralphie home yet? I bet you can't wait to have him back home!! |
Yes, he is home...YAY :yay_jump::yay_jump::yay_jump: The poor baby has stitches up both sides of his little belly. They look so gruesome and painful. I am just not cut out for this kind of thing. He was really happy to see me and started clawing at the nurse to get to me, and he started screaming in pain because he was over doing it. Just about ripped my heart right out of my chest :(:( He was pretty out of it but wouldn't sit still in his car seat and he kept yelping and whining. Finally I unhooked his harness and let him snuggle in on my lap with a blanket and then he was still. Poor baby just wanted to be near his mommy. I got him home and he peed and drank some water. He was really gulping it but they told me not to give him too much because it could make him throw up. I put him in his little onesie because of course the little stink was messing with his stitches. He took a little nap and when he woke up he was starving so I gave him 1/2 of a NV raw chicken medallion. Now he is sleeping next to me on his bed. I just hate this. I am sooo afraid that I am going to hurt him or rip out a stitch or something. The Dr. was way right when he called me neurotic, ha ha. I just love the little guy so much I can't stand it :hearts-xx:hearts-xx Thanks again for the support, I needed it so much and I'm sure I will need some more before it's all over with...lol. |
Whoooo!!!! I'm sure you'll do fine! Ralphie will heal fast! Did the vet give you pain medication for him? Poor guy yelping in pain would break my heart! |
Yes, thank God they did give me some pain meds for tomorrow and they gave him some shots for the pain today. And yes, the yelping was gut wrenching :( |
How's Ralphie boy doing today? |
He is actually doing really well today. He slept for the 1st half of the day and the rest of the day he was back to his "stinker" self, wanting to run around and play with his toys. He has left his stitches alone fairly well which really surprised me. I kept him in a onesie until this afternoon and I will put it back on when we go to bed. Thank you soo much for checking on the little Ralphin-ater!!!:p:p:p |
Awww so glad ralphie is home and doing well. I know how you feel about these little guys. I have 4 children and 3 babies. The babies really just kill me when they are sad and mushy. I'm sure your little guy will be up and about in no time. :D :aimeeyorkCOCO :aimeeyorkPEBBLES :aimeeyorkTRIXIE |
