Big Energy-Little Dog! In all of the books that I have read about yorkies, they always claim that any amount of energy that these little dogs have can be run off, or exhausted in your house or apartment. I was just wondering if anybody else has a little one that has a TON of energy. My guy Thor gets walks around the neighborhood (30-40mins) and can come home and run around like a mad man!! And that walk is after he has played with my other dog all day and romped in the back yard. He's so cute, and full of energy! I was just wondering if anyone else has a dog with endless energy and why those yorkie books are so misleading! Could it be that he is like this because he is only a puppy(5mo)? (to clarify this, I'm not saying this is a problem, it's just amazing how much energy and spunk he has!) Thanks!! |
Well Mia is almost 3 and a half and her level of energy is the same as when she was a pup...she never stops!!!! We can even go for an hour long walk, but as soon as we get home, she wants to play again!! |

I can relate. Deegan is wound for sound constantly. Pretty much all day long he is bouncing off the walls. I was thinking that too, about how I read in books that Yorkies are good dogs for apartments, but I don't believe it. We have a fairly good sized house, and a decent sized back yard for him to play in, and still doesn't seem to get too worn out. I'm just glad that we don't live in an apartment because I wouldn't know what to do with him to tire him out. |
Samson is five months old, and I've never seen a dog with this much energy. He is fairly inactive during the day, but from about 6:00-11:00 p.m. he is never still. I walk him, play ball with him, give him chews or anything I can think of to get rid of some of the energy. He is wearing me out! He plays so hard he just literally crashes about 11p.m. I hope that as he gets older, he will have less energy, but if he doesn't, I can live with that too. Sue and Samson |
Stomper is 8 months old and hyper as heck. I wonder if he will every calm down. To top it off, he HAS to get up everyday between 5:45 AM - 6:15 AM. He is ready to play the second he wakes up. If I am too tired to play...well, he doesn't care! He will make enough noise to make sure I get up! |
yes, Joey is like this as well - sometimes he runs in circles around our apt, just to get some of the energy out. He is better on the weekends, when we're not working and can get him outside for really long walks. As long as he is stimulated he seems to be fine, but when he is at home on the weekdays, he is out of control! |
Both of mine used to have a ton of energy, Max is now 11mo and has slowed down some Missy just turned 1 and has slowed down quiet a bit. |
We may be in the minority here! ;) Tatum is about 1.5 years old and she is very laid back. She's really always been that way. Don't get me wrong... she can run like the wind and has been known to give a calf a run for it's money (until it turned around and started chasing HER! That was a gut clencher!). She now has an Australian Shepherd puppy for a sister and they can go at it pretty good but even if they don't play, Tatum is still very calm and laid back. I've often said the dog's personality has a lot to do with it's owners. We used to have a toy poodle and he was the most laid back, non-yappy poodle I've ever met. I think it's because we're pretty laid back at home. |
