Breeding Question Hello, I have a question I have a male yorkies that weighs 6 1/2 pounds and a female that weighs 4 1/2 pounds. Would it be safe to breed them? I am not a back yard breeder, but my little ginger is 3 and I am liking to raise a litter of puppies. Thanks. |
Thats not a good idea. Your girl is too small to be bred. You would be risking her life by breeding her. |
I was scared of that, but thanks for your reply. |
Most breeders like the male smaller than the female, but even with a small male your female is too small to safely breed. Some breeders do it because they don't care if they lose the mother, they are more interested in getting tiny babies, but most people who have had their yorkies as pets, will not take the chance. To be done right, unless you have free vet service, raising yorkies isn't really a money making opportunity either. Welcome to Yorkietalk, we would love to see pictures of your babies. |
I think she is to small to breed. When we got Chloe ( who is 2.5 lbs.)we were told specifically not to breed her because she would be to small ( we had no intention on breeding her anyway) so I can't imagine 4.5 being all that much bigger. I would be afraid for her. |
