Beds with Cedar chips :animal-paHello Has anyone else heard that you cannot have a bed for your YT with Cedar chips in it. I was told by my breeder (who was a ditz, I found out later:rolleyes:) that it isn't good for their breathing. Help |
Never heard of this before. I hope someone here can help. :) |
thanks really? I kinda figured. You seem like you have had a lot of experience with your fur babies! What kind of beds do you own? THANK YOU SO MUCH for your quick response!!!! |
Squirt's been sleeping on one for years, and hasn't had any problems. |
really, yours too? Hmmm I feel dumb and duped! Thank you for your help! |

I did a Google search and found this thread. Will a dog bed with cedar chips mixed in make my dog sick? - Yahoo! Answers I plan to continue to use the cedar bed even though it gets mixed comments. Some negatives may or may not be based on actual experience. |
very cool, thank you. I really appreciate you helping me out. |
My husband's dog has a cedar bed...but all three of my yorkies lay on it, sleep on it. Don't always buy into the hype. There is always going to be someone that thinks something is harmful. |
I never heard that before but my dh did bring one home for our other dog years ago and she would not go in it ..she would sniff it and sneeze and lay on the other side of the kitchen on the floor so she wasn't near it....I didn't like the smell either so we got rid of it. |
cedar chips are bad for a rabbit's respitory system---so i imagine that it would be for a dog's to a lesser degree. |
They say the same thing about using cedar shavings for rats, hamsters, etc. I dunno how much is true and how much is an exaggeration. We used it for all my rodents growing up and they generally lived good long lives other then rare situations with extenuating circumstances. (we had a rat somehow hang himself in his cage) And I have heard it about rabbits too, but it may be more wives tale than fact. |
I've never heard of that one before. Our bigger dog has a huge dog house filled with cedar chips and we've never had any problems. |
When we had hamsters I read on another forum that you shouldnt use cedar bedding. I dont know about with dogs |
