Puppies by the side of the road So here I am driving back home from grocery shopping today, and what do I see about 4-5 signs saying "poodle puppies free petting" and then I see this pick up truck with a trailer with a blue tarp over it. So I turn around to go check out the puppies. This man has about 6-7 poodle puppies he said he was selling the girls for $500 and the boys for $450, then he had one that was all curled up not playing like the others so he was going to sell her for $300 because "she is going to be a little bigger". This man goes on to tell me that "if you are going to breed the females well you can just bring the puppies back to me and I can sell them for you, now really if I do all the work of breeding why would I give them back to him so he can take some of the money. (I would not buy a puppy by the side of the road and breed them). I just said "oh okay thanks" so he hands me a card and says "well here is my number if you want to get one or any other breed because we are always looking for dogs to sell". Darn it why can they just do things like this.:mad: |
That stinks. It should be illegal. My niece bought a cocker from someone in front of Walmart in Tenn and it was 6 weeks old. So far she has been ok she just turned 4 months I think. She felt sorry for the puppy but I hate to see these people getting away with it. |
I thought that was illegal! How horrible for the puppies, he has no idea what kind of family they will go to :( CREEP! |
Lucy's doggie mama's people were out front of a Starbucks Coffee one early Sunday morning - that's how I got her. She almost 4 1/2 years old & is just fine!! I felt really lucky - it was a God thing, if you know what I mean :) This has been true many times during the time I have had her! |
This seems really horrible! I Hope whoever gets them loves them. If it is not, It should be illegal!!! |
:( This is so sad. |
These types of people really don't seem to understand that a puppy is a living, breathing animal..NOT a stuffed toy or some other inanimate object that should be distributed at roadside. This annoys me to no end. |
Let me clear up that Lucy's people were dog loving people. Nothing like the man you encountered on the side of the road. His ways are not good period!! |
They passed a law here in AZ preventing this kind of "puppy sales":thumbup: It ws getting to be like a petting zoo at every Wal-mart and down every road. |

Grrrrr....that makes me so mad. Stupid, stupid people. |
 ... OMG ... how sad ... please tell me where your at it was not freezing cold outside while he waited to sell them ..... |
I assume he is considered a puppy broker but sells on the side of the road. This should be illegal. We saw a man and woman sitting in their truck at Wal-mart a few weeks back in the shade, while the puppies were in the cage in the sun with no water or food. This ticked me off to no end, I have no idea what the puppies were, but still it is sick. They did have a sign that stated $150 to loving homes only...I wonder how they would know if it was loving by just sitting in the parking lot? |
7 years ago i was on my way home and on the side of the road was a tarp and about 20 puppies of all breeds. I stoped in and fell in love with this little westie that was all by himself. I did go back and buy him, he is the joy of my life, kirby...he was a mess with all kinds of worms including ring worm. And he ate his poop. Hes all good now, but that guy said they came from a kennel called ma and pa kennels. He is akc but i had him neutered..that guy came around every christmas and set up his tarp in the same place. I have not seen him in the past 2 years |
That is horrible. I don't know how anyone with a conscience (?) can do that. Anyway, isn't illegal to do roadside sales? I know it's illegal to sell under the age of 8 weeks and even that's too young in my point of view. There was a show on Judge concerning a puppy that was sold by a guy in a pickup truck on the side of the road and of course the couple that bought the puppy were suing due to the puppy's health issues that it was having. One of them being that it was not eating at all initially. Anyway, sadly the sellers won on a technicality. Even Judge Alex was disgusted with the guy, but since specific laws had not been passed in that state (I don't remember which one), there was nothing that they could do. |
