My heart breaks for you and I hope and pray the outcome is a good one. Hugs and prayers to you and your baby. |
ALSO CHECK THIS OUT..Medical Treatment Dogs with shunts that are seizuring or comatose should be given intravenous fluids with dextrose (sugar), intravenous antibiotics, and warm water enemas. Lactulose syrup can be instilled in the rectum after the enema to decrease toxin absorption. Some dogs may even need activated charcoal (given by tube through the mouth into the stomach) to absorb toxins if they are comatose. Long-term medical treatment for dogs with shunts includes a low protein diet such as Hill's L/D, and drugs such as lactulose and neomycin or metronidazole to prevent production and absorption of ammonia and other intestinal toxins. Lactulose, a sugar solution, is extremely safe, although a high dose will cause diarrhea. Some animals do well on medical treatment alone, but most have shortened life spans because of progressive liver shrinkage and loss of function. Medical treatment is normally used to stabilize a patient until it is healthy enough to tolerate the surgery. |
Sending Prayers and Positive Thoughts. My heart breaks for you :( |
I hope the vet checks out the possibility of a liver shunt or hydrocephalus. I will keep Queenie in my prayers. |
i am so sorry that you and your has to go thru this...hope everything gets better! |
Last update Hi all, I really appreciate all the kind words. The last update was on Friday - vet says he is seeing what progress there is in 48 hours. She's in no pain and she is eating but she is still circling. I don't want to ring as he wants to give her as much a chance as possible. And by ringing I think I would be hurrying him up on deciding what to do! I asked about shunts and he said she would have shown these signs at an earlier age. He is treating her for meningitus and for trauma he is unsure which it is. She is on anti biotics and anti inflammataries. I'll call at lunch tomorrow for another update. Please God she'll be coming home. |
I am praying that tomorrows update will be a good one for you and your baby. Please be sure to keep us posted! I will be praying!! |
Queenie was put to sleep yesterday. |
I am SO sorry your heart is broken :crying: RIP Queenie.....:rbyorkie: |
OH I am soooo sorry to hear of Queenie's passing. :( Did the vet ever figure out what could have happened to her? What a nightmare! My heart and prayers go out to you. (((HUGS))) |
I'm so sorry for your loss.... |
My heart goes out to you... I am sooo sorry. |
 Iam so sorry :( my heart is breaking with you, I know how bad it hurts, I just lost my babie boy to LS :( my thoghts and prayers are with you :angelyork R.I.P sweet babie :cry8: |
I just saw this thread, and was hoping for a better ending. I am so very sorry for your loss, and know how devistating it is to lose a beloved pet (I lost one in April). You mentioned earlier feeling guilty about thinking of another pet. Please, Please don't feel guilty at all, and start as soon as you feel able to find that next special furbaby to love. You will never replace the one you lost, but do not deprive yourself or a wonderful pet of all the joy possible in sharing your love. I started looking for a pet immediately upon losing my schnauzer girl, and within 6 weeks brought home the most adorable Yorkie girl and 3 months after that got a Morkie girl. Our home is bursting with puppy love and it has helped heal the hole in our hearts. Thoughts and prayers are going your way. |
I am so sorry for your lost. God bless you as you deal with this heart breaking tragedy. RIP Queenie :lovewings |
