Help! car sickness
 
Brutis is almost 1 year old and still gets car sick. I can not go 2 miles with out him getting sick. Is there doggie Dramamine or something? Poor guy can't go any were with us.

Can't help you there...Zoe still pukes on me and if I let Brady off my lap, he tends to pee....gotta love it!

I have read in my dog fancy magazine you can give them ginger snaps before a car ride and that is supposed to help, ginger is good for the stomach.

:thumbup: I have the same problem with Sassy. Thank goodness the vet is within walking distance. I heard about the ginger snap fix too but havent tried it yet. I just asked my vet about this and he advised me to go to the drugstore and get some "Bonnie" (pills) and give her 1/4 of a tablet. Please let me know if you try these and if they work for you. thankx :aimeeyork

What are Bonnie Pills? Is that the name?

Yep...Bonnie pills....he said the pharmacist would know what I was talking about. I'm going to check on that tomorrow at Rite Aid.:animal-pa

They're called 'Bonine' tablets and are in the pharmacy area. I picked some up but haven't had a chance to try them yet:rolleyes:

If it is true car sickness there are things you can use but my Feather used to get so upset so would throw up. When I talked to my vet she said it sounded like anxiety and told me to try benedryl. It works like a charms. I give it to her about an hour before we go and she get slightly sleepy. We went on a 6 hour car trip this summer and we stopped after 4 hour to give her another dose and she was fine.

Several on here have used the Bonine tablets with success and you can buy these over the counter almost anywhere. Bailey gets car sick and I gave him 1/2 tablet on 3 different occasions. It only helped one time out of the three. Last week I took him to get his nails trimmed and we were almost back home before he got sick so maybe it did help some. It's approximately 18 miles round trip. Usually he gets sick just a few miles from the house. I've been told that if they can see out they won't get sick as quickly so I'm looking into getting a car seat.

How much Benedryl did you give and how much does she weigh?

When is it warmer can you work with him just letting him run through the car without it moving... could be ansiety based and if you turn it into a fun place it may be better.

Alos do not only just take him to the vet in the car or car is bad.

Also try a sound tape from trough the dogs ears for car rides.... helps some dogs.
Also change where he ridesw.
I had one dog that can ride anywhere. Another got sick if she rode in the back of the SUV but not in the back seat over the wheels.... also maybe letting them see out the front can help.

Ear that balance them can be set off by either seeing or not seeing and it may get better as he grows but by then stress of the rides and being sick will kick in.

Bio calm or composure which is a natural drug can help.

I would recommending trying something like ginger snaps before resorting to drugs that have the potenial to affect their heart, blood pressure and breathing. Ellie used to get sick all the time on car rides but loves going away with us. Ginger snaps seemed to work very well for her and now she must've outgrew it because no more vomiting...

A lot of dogs will require drugs though.

The bio calm/ compsure are made of turkey juice ei the same stuff that makes humans sleepy after christmas dinner. Natural totally natural.....

Gravol is also something most vets suggest.

I not suggesting senistives or prozac but they can be used in very bad cases or benadrly which be using benadryl for something other then it is to be used for cases.

I fly dogs on bio calm and have no worries that they going to not have a clue what is going on it just takes the edge off.
