Akc classified's puppy broker
 

Hi, everyone ~ First off, my heart goes out to those who purchased precious pups from "Puppies by Marie", here on Long Island. A dear friend of mine purchased my Sweet Danny Boy from her in 1998 after my rescue Yorkie, Little Annie had passed away. Danny was an angel!! Sadly, he had ongoing health problems; one thing after another. He succumbed to a sudden onset of Cancer this past June. Everyone in our Veterinarian's office mourned his lost with me. Danny had an exceptional spirit.
With all of the dogs being left behind, during these difficult economic times, I hesitated to seek out purchasing a pup. But, I loved Yorkies so much!!! So, I went to the AKC.org website, wanting feel secure with an honest and caring breeder. Unfortunately, that was not what I ultimately found in their classified ads. I checked off their disclaimer of responsibility for their ads and took a leap of faith with a "breeder" close to where I live.
Now, I know that this woman is most likely a puppy broker. The puppy I purchased from her died at 8 wks. of age, after she rushed me to take him when he was only 7 wks. Not only that but she had convinced me to purchase two brothers after I visited the pups at 4 wks., claiming that the pups were so bonded and it would be so much fun. I had even come up with names: Barnum and Bailey! Then, when I went to visit the pups at 6 wks., she gave me a completely different story, telling me that taking one pup at a time would insure my bonding with the pup. She wouldn't show me the other pup. Next thing I know, she's calling me to come and picke up my pup!!! This, after initially claiming that she breeds infrequently, won't allow the pups to leave before 8 wks. and had convinced me to let her give the pup his 12th wk. vaccinations. "Don't tell anyone", she said, "as I would be practicing Veterinary medicine unlawfully".
I named him Darcy Daniels. Slept above my head, right on my pillow. Had wee wee pads set up. After proclaiming how trained he was and how wonderfully he ate "kibble", he turned out to be and do neither!!
Tough to go on talking about this. Needless to say, this woman was uncaring and impatient with me, AFTER I paid her $600.00 and left with the puppy. In fact, when I called her during the night that little Darcy was failing, she became rude and told me to never call her again.
Susan Kanter is advertising in the AKC classifieds, now, for second or third time since I was there. She would not let me into the room where the "mother was". The father was, "with his handler". In hindsight, I ask you all to read between the lines with this woman. Her home is here, on Long Island, NY.

Sorry for all you went through on trying to get a new puppy. There are some real uncaring crooks out there. :(

That is awful. I am so sorry for what you went through. I am constantly shocked at how people can treat puppies like any other commodity...Its sick.

Thank you, for your heart felt responses. Truly did break my heart. Have to wonder if it's actually right for a REAL Breeder to let a precious Yorkie puppy go before 8 wks. of age. I am sad that your puppy past. Can you report this breeder's bad behavior to AKC? I would not want this breeder advertising on my site. Welcome to Yorkie Talk.

I am so sorry for all of the difficult things you have been through. As a fellow Long Islander, I feel fortunate that I did not use this breeder, and I think it's wonderful that you shared your story to help warn others. Unfortunately, no one can warn any future pups she may be responsible for helping bring to the world. With your experience, one can only wonder about the health of all the others... :(

Please clarify, these are two different businesses
 

Hi, you've mentioned two different companies here so I am confused. Are you speaking of Puppies by Marie in hempstead LI or Susan Kanter of Farmingville LI? I just spoke to Susan Kanter today and a business reference of hers and both were positive. She is also accredited on the AKC site. Seems you may have the two mixed up. Please clarify as I may use her as my breeder. Thanks

The breeder she was referring to in 2008 was inLong Island, New York I read on her first post.

I was doing some research on Susan Kanter of LI but wanted clarification because in the original post, two companies on Long Island are mentioned. Puppies by Marie in Hempstead Long Island and Susan Kanter who is also in Long Island (Farmingville). I am trying to find a reference on Susan. Any help is much appreciated.

I hope you find the information you are looking for about Susan Kanter. I read the post wrong and thought it said Louisiana in short initials. Can't you just google about her or were you wanting someone from YT that might have information on her. But from that post it sounds as if she is not a breeder to get involved with. However I only say this as the person who wrote the post talked very negatively about how the woman treated her and did not seem to care about the pups she was breeding. Best of luck to you in your search for that perfect Yorkie you desire to get.

Thank you so much for your communication and concern. I actually have googled her but she does not come up other than her website. I believe that could be either very good or very bad.

As for what the woman wrote here (and the cause for my further inquiry) is that she mentions "pups by Marie" first when she is speaking negatively and then goes into talking about Susan (two different people and companies).

Yes, ultimately, I would feel better if someone had a direct reference to doing business with Susan and her pups.

How about if you were to start a thread here on YT asking if anyone knows of this Breeder Susan Kanter or even the other one pups by Marie. You might have to start the thread in a specific place meant for breeders or the like. Not sure as I never start threads myself.
Do you think the two might be the same person using different identities? Anyway I thought this might be of a help to you in finding the information you want to get about the person.

You "may" get some answers by starting your own thread in the Breeders section to see if any current members are familiar with this breeder.Good luck.

Thank you so much, yes I have started another thread asking the same. I think they are different as Marie lives in Hempstead and Susan in Farmingville and Google has two different addresses for them, but hey you never know, that's why I ask.

I wouldn't get a pup from her! She uses the word teacup which no reputable breeder does and she says she breeders her females only once a year but has 10 litters per year which means she has 10 breeding females which seem like a lot to keep in one house which makes me wonder where they are all living and how. I personally would not buy from a breeder who didn't home raise their yorkies.
