Worm Lover! I don't know if this is a normal Yorkie thing, but I do know that none of my previous dogs have ever loved worms as much as Deegan does. I mean, he plays with them, pawing at them and tossing them over his head, then he rolls on them, and then eats them! Ewww! Gross! It's especially embarrasing when people are like "Is he eating a worm?" And I have to lower my head in shame. I don't want them to think he's a little oinker. But for some reason he loves them. Does anyone's Yorkies do this? Would anyone know why he does it? |
Gucci doesn't like worms. I heard of others thou that do. Really don't know why is that. I agreed is gross. |
Maybe Deegan's been watching fear factor behind your back and thinks their a treat. ;) |
If he has been watching Fear Factor, I wouldn't mind him practicing - I could always use $50,000! |
Fear is no factor for Jo! (sorry...I couldn't resist!) Yes...my Jo was a worm eater. By the way let me tell you that there is nothing more gross than sticking your finger into a mushy little Yorkie mouth and pulling out an even mushier worm!! Jo didn't just eat the ones he found on top of the ground...nooo, he would actually hunt them down, sniff them out and pull them up like a bird. It was funny the first time I saw him do it but then it just got gross and they're so darned quick you can't just grab a worm away from them. Anyway, he's a big boy now and he doesn't do that anymore...I guess he stopped when he was about 6 months old. Now he just goes after the fire ants!! |
Ruby loves all insects and critters but nothing could beat the taste of a good old earth worm her she never pass one up she eats every one of them in her path. |
OMG memphis does the same thing. Grosses me out. I dont mind worms but no way in hell is he gonna kiss me after eating them. I swear he knows that the worms come out after it rains so he always wants to go out and then he searches the yard for them. YUCK!!! |
Try baby possums and rats If you think worms are gross, let me tell you about my boys: About three months ago, I was laying on my bed on a Sunday morning reading the paper. I have a really high sleigh bed with a headboard and footboard that are 6 ft tall and four feet tall, so I could hear the boys down at the rug below the foot board carrying on (I had the slider open as I always do when I am home so that they can go in and out) finally after telling them to cut it out, I got up to find them playing with a live baby possum. Long story short, I rescued Prissy (Priscilla Possum) from the boys. Kept her a few days feeding her soaked puppy kibble and puppy canned milk via a bottle until a possum rescue came to pick her up. Last week, I am watching the game (laying on my bed in my room as my DD lives with me and has commandered the living room) and one of the boys (I think it was Benni dropped a dead, muddy rat next to me on the bed. I have rolled over on snails, rocks, worms, etc. So a few worms is nothing to me. |

Sebastian has been worm hunting a lot but hasn't come up with anything yet. Hopefully it stays that way! |
