Only neutered dogs allowed in dog parks? I'm wondering if all or only certain dog parks only allow neutered dogs. My Bosley isn't neutered and feel really bad that I can't take him out to play with other dogs. The usually take him to a dog park in Arcadia, CA, but shyed away from it when another dog owner said to the other dog owners (and not to us!) that un-neutered dogs weren't allowed in the park. Please state the city/state of dog parks in responses! Thanks all! |
I would be careful to let my Yorkie play in a dog park with other big dogs IF the park allows big dogs. Sometimes, when there are unbalanced dogs around, it can trigger a fight and if your dog is smaller, it can be hurt. I usually just let my Yorkie play with a few of his friends that I know he is okay with. Just invite them over for a playdate. |
No offense to Bosley (cute name)...but I think it's a good idea. Imagine the chaos if a female in heat was anywhere in the vicinity. Neutered animals are generally less aggressive also. I personally don't take mine to our dog parks...because several of the parks...several different years have been closed for parvo outbreaks. The only vaccine proof needed here is rabies...so no thanks...we play at home. |
I prefer to play at home also because it's cleaner! I recently got a new 10-week old female named Mall-E (like Wall-E :p, the movie) so he won't be anti-social. He gets along fine with other dogs and isn't aggressive towards them. He just doesn't like it when other dogs get in his face and try to play with him when he doesn't feel like playing. You think this might be a problem? |

I think it's the same in Philadelphia. I believe it's a good thing. |
I agree that it is a good thing. It just makes the experience more enjoyable for everyone. The un-neutered males in our dog park always seem to be more aggressive and territorial. I know this is hypocritical and she is spayed now but when she wasn't, it was a pain trying to keep the boy dogs from trying to get her. Fixed animals are generally better pets, and less at risk for severe health problems. Have you considered getting Bosley neutered? |
