Need opinions/suggestions on sleeping arrangements I have yet another question!! Currently Pita (almost 6 months) sleeps in her crate next to my 16 year old son's bed. He is getting tired of having her in there b/c she gets up too early (5:30-6:00am). The reason I did not put the crate in my room in the first place is b/c DH has to get up at 3:30am every morning and I didn't want Pita to think it's time to get up and play. Plus I worried about "private time" :p Anyway, Last night Pita acted like she was going to give me trouble putting her to bed, but she didn't (thank goodness!) but it did get me wondering. What should I do about her sleeping arrangements? I honestly do not want her to sleep in our bed. Should I just keep torturing my son? Should I put her crate in our room at the risk of her getting up at 3:30am? I lost sleep trying to decide what to do. I hate to disrupt what has been going well but it doesn't seem fair to my son. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. |
Maybe you could try crating her up outside of the bedroom? Both my husky and ACD used to sleep in the living room. At 6 months she shouldn't need you to let her out in the night (I would think) so I don't see why she should still have to sleep next to your bed (or your kid's) if you don't want her to. |
Yeah torture your kid. LOL.... Really since she is used to sleeping in her crate...you can probably move it in another room other than a bedroom and she'll be fine with it. |
Thank you for the suggestions and I wish I could do that, but Pita is needy and she won't go to sleep if she can't see someone. :( |

Mine get up early with my husband and go out to potty, but then they all come back to bed. If you place her in your room...that's probably what you're gonna have do too. Once they get moving after sleeping...they need to potty. |
Walker sleeps in a crate next to our bed and when dh gets up early walker will wake up and go potty, then go back to bed. We haven't had a problem with him wanting to get up and play at that time. Our problem is when dh works over nights and gets home in the morning and tries to sleep. Walker gets way too excited to see him an wants to play. :) |

he's a teenager. we all know he can probably sleep anywhere!! have him get up with her and take her potty, then he can crawl right back into bed and get a few more minutes of sleep. then the next day, have him wait 5more minutes. eventually she'll be able to wait until he rolls out of bed just in time to make the bus after taking her out :) she will be able to wait and is just a baby right now. hopefully your son will think this is a brillant idea ... |
well, i would be sad to put the crate in a separate room unless your puppy is ok with it, because dogs are pack animals, and they would be so sad to be by themselves. as far as sleeping in your bedroom. well, just make sure you DON"T let the puppy sleep in your bed!...milu started sleeping in our bed, and she won't sleep in her own bed anymore. so there is no "alone time" anymore...we are trying to fix this, but it's VERY HARD!!! milu crys and breaks our hearts, and how can we choose alone time over cute furball of love? lol  |
