Why is he so destructive!!!
 
I was just wondering if anyone has a furbaby that is as destructive as my London..

First of all everytime I go to a store I have to buy him a toy, so he has so many toys. But I have noticed that he will sit and destroy his stuffed animal toys. He first rips off both eyes and the nose if he can... Then if it is a squeak toy he will bite and scratch at it until he gets the squeaky thing out..

Are there some durable long lasting toys that I can get him?? Or is this just normal for his age? He is 10 months...

It is very normal for his age. My two are 4 now and never destroy anything. The kongs and cuz balls are durable

He will probably not grow out of it. Some tips I use for Edgar are:

1. Pull as hard as you can on the legs, nose, ears, tail, and pull the body seams. If you can see the stitching sort of 'give' or see the threads, put it back.

2. There are some new low fluff and no fluff toys. But they have SOOO much fun pulling that stuffing out.

3. There are also toys at Pet Smart that come with an extra pack of squeakers.

4. Instead of buying cute stuffed toys, give him a sock with lots of socks in it. Then, when he pulls out the socks, you can just find the one with the least holes in it and restuff it for him!!

Edgar always goes for the weakest seams, generally the ears and he will eat off the tip of the nose. I completely understand your pain!!

ps--make sure the eyes aren't button eyes. I'm sure you know this, but they love to gnaw those off.

Hopefully he will grow out of this.. I am going to try out the Kong ball, I have heard alot about it..Thanks

Thanks so much.. The socks idea is great. I will try that because he will play with anything.. And yes I try to make sure the eyes arent button eyes. I have caught him chewing on some button eyes before.. So know I make sure I am very careful

Chachi grew out of it he was very destructive as a pup. You can get the kongs at petsmarts. Sometimes the cuz balls also or dog.com has them

Edgar is almost 4years and he's never grown out of the 'wild' stage. He still thinks he's patrolling castles (my castle) for rodents (those darned stuffed piggies!!). So when he 'catches' one, he has to make sure it doesn't 'make it.'

Mine we both like that for a long time. Every new toy would be destroyed within minutes or a day of bringing them home. I did find that some toys are more durable and more well made than others. Of course they are more money. I used to buy $1 toys at walmart and the dollar store, but I could go through 4 a day in some cases... so I went back to the expensive toys at petsmart/petco, they lasted longer. My boys also ate their adorable bed that I bought and the cushion of the next bed I bought them. 20 leashes/harnesses at least were also eaten! Thankfully about a year they outgrew that! I lost a lot of stuff to little teeth in their first year!

These are great for dogs who like to "dig out" the squeaker. There is an elsatic opening in the belly of the toy that has the "eggs" in it. Rory doesn't really destroy toys, but she loves to pull out the eggs and play fetch - but fetch is her favorite thing in the world to do.

This toy has held up against my sister's Old English Sheepdog too. I think the trick is that there is no stuffing to pull out, and when your pup pulls out the egg they feel like they have found the squeaker.

It might be worth a shot.

I hope he likes them and isn't able to destroy them! Mine actually came with 2 refill "eggs", but I haven't had to use them yet - which says something.

I think we are going to get a different animal for one of Rory's stocking stuffers. It will be interesting to see if she immediately recognizes it as the same kind of toy where she can pull out the "guts" or not!

You crack me up. It is pretty sturdy. My sister's OES (70 pounds) has managed to rip many of Rory's toys when they were brand new. In fact, quite a few of the toys she received at her birthday were immediately beheaded after they were unwrapped. :mad: Anyways, "Flounder" is still intact for now!
