The well-dressed pooch... Do you dress your dogs? I always said (before I got a small dog) that I'd never be someone who dressed up their dogs. I thought it was silly and people who did it were anthromorphizing their dogs. But my new yorkie pup Ollie actually likes wearing clothes. He hates going outside without a tee-shirt on when it's cold, and if he sees me pick up his gray ALPHA DOG tee-shirt, he begs to be picked up and have it put on. He sticks his own head through the neck and waits patiently to have his arms put through the sleeves. And he walks around so jauntily after he has it on. I never thought a dog would actually like being dressed up! What kind of clothes do your dogs wear? I'm thinking I'm going to have to pick him up some more shirts with funny/smart aleck sayings on them. I saw one on a website with an iPod and "iPeed" on the back of it...hilarious! :D |
I was the same, why would you dress a dog???? Then I rescued Ella Bean who is all of 2 lbs. I learned FAST that dressing her isn't just cute, its necessary! She is 2 lbs and SO small that she gets cold super easily. So, while I started out of necessity, now I have a whole drawer of hoodies and t shirts for her! I got her a teeny parka for winter and am now a full fledged dog dresser! I am always on the hunt for cute little additions to her 'wardrobe.' I even started sewing my own clothes for her! LOL! She loves it. She knows that she gets attention when she wears them and just LOVES it. BTW, I have the gray Alpha Dog tee for her too!! SO CUTE |
I dress my lil girl like I would dress myself, lol.... I LOVE the "smart-aleck" tees for example, she has one that reads "Rich Bitch" sorry if that's offensive, but I thought it was cute =].... I also love getting her the Band Tees, all the old 70's-80's and early 90's rock bands!! THen there's the always fashionable "fur" coats and designer harnesses and collars! Anything with Studs or Jewels =] and ofcourse Skulls and Crossbones! Shelby is not a fan of dressing up but when she's freezing her bottom off, then she understands it necessary, lol.... she loves her Tees, nothing big and bulky though! BTW I was about 6 or 7 yrs old when I first started dressing my first dog, Lady (LhasoAhpso/Peckignese).... that was over 15 yrs ago!! Shelby is now my 2nd dog ever and dressing them up is "so in" now.... but truth is they need the warmth, we just make it look good ;) |
My Chachi loves to wear clothes he just sruts around in them. Unfortunately he is a bigger yorkie and its harder to find clothes that will fit him. I find some things at walmart. Jewels could do without clothes but she looks cute in them. Right now I have been buying tshirts. I am going to get Jewels a Christmas dress though |
I really love the smart aleck tee-shirts too, mostly because that was the kind of stuff I wore in college and now that I'm in a corporate office it isn't permissible anymore. :( But I can live vicariously through my dog!! :D I'm afraid my "stockpot" yorkie is going to be a bit more difficult to dress once he gets to full size though. The little rain jacket and hoody I bought him don't even fit anymore, and I've had him a week! |
You can find tons of bigger dog clothes here on YT!! Members have cute stores where they sell goods and often times custom make the clothes according to measurements. And to those who say its frivolous and whatnot...It is! So what?? People own boats and play golf and do tons of random things for recreation. As long as the pooch doesn't mind, I think its great! |
I dress Mitzy up but only in warm clothes. She doesnt wear dresses or tees.. She just hates clothes so I try not to force it on her unless I have to. I wish she would though Its funny cause my husbands dog (weimareiner) LOVES to be dressed up. I make fun of him and call him my gay best freind. He will wear anything I put on him. Hes such a doll. |
Speaking of gay, I saw a dog tee-shirt that says, "They're raising me gay." Cracked me UP. I can just imagine Ollie wearing a bow and that tee-shirt, lol.. |

Ditto! When I first got my Chi girl, Ellie, she weighed a whopping 2lb and it was till snowing at that time of year (March) so after a few days of having her I decided I had to get onto eBay quick snap to get her something warm to wear or I'd never have a house trained dog! lol My family all think I'm NUTS for having my girls wear coats but if they had a small dog they'd soon find out! Jess :heart to |
First you have to understand that I have 3 sons and always wanted to dress a little girl. My minnie loves to wear clothes, but not bows. She get so excited when we change her outfit. I dress her in dresses and coats when we go visiting. I also dress her up when someone comes to visit. She usually always wears a t-shirt around the house. My best find was a t-shirt that says Team Captain ( my son is football and basketball captain this year in high school). Some people think I am crazy, but my minnie truly enjoys getting dressed up. |
Yeah, Ella loves being dressed too. She is my lil princess! |
Humphrey hates clothes. My little guy loves running around au-naturel, but when its really cold and windy he has to wear a hoodie. He throws a tantrum, hides under the table but once the garment is on he will put up with it. DH, OTOH would rather have him catching pneumonia, he is soooo embarrassed when he has to take this little dressed thing out on his own. |
Callie will stick her head through and lift up her front legs one at a time trying to put them in her self so I will hold the leg hole open and let her its so cute normaly this is an all the time thing but sometimes if my mom is holding her when I go to put it on she will throw both paws in the air so I cant get it on and my mom is no help she just thinks its the cutest thing ever. When I put something on her that has snaps I put it on her and then lay her down on her back and she will lay still while I button it lol. But altho I have cute things for her to wear its mostly to keep her warm. |

Ella does the same!! She practically picks out what she wants to wear! |
Twinkle isn't a fan of clothes unfortunately:( I bought a really cute t-shirt that says 'SIZE DOESN'T MATTER' (shes not yet six months and weights 8lb so I thought it was funny) but she whimpers and whines and paws at it trying to get it off her so now I just leave her naked:rolleyes: She will just about tolerate her little pink coat which is necessary now that it's getting so cold, but she really sulks when I put it on her and I have to bribe her out of the door with treats!:D I LOVE looking at the pics of all the dressed-up babies on YT xxx xx |
