Need Advice Please! Help!!!! I'm sure you are all sick of hearing about Miles' neutering experience by now...if you haven't heard, he got neutered last Monday and had some complications. Long story short, he got an infection due to the way the vet tied his sutures, and has been on antibiotics. Here's my problem. In the last couple days, he has started peeing in the weirdest places! Aside from marking before his neutering, he was always good about going outside. Yesterday, he peed on my couch (grrrrrr!), my boyfriend's computer, my boyfriend's couch, and my boyfriend's bed (maybe he just doesn't like another man in my life...lol). Today, he walked right up behind me in the kitchen and peed!!!!! I cannot figure out what is going on with him! My first thought was that maybe he had a UTI, but he had antibiotics last week...so I think it's unlikely. Could something have happened in the surgery that would cause him to just lose control and pee wherever? Has anyone had this happen after neutering, or heard about it happening? I am at a loss... Thank you for listening to me ramble about Miles...once again! :) |
I'm no expert, but I'd limit his freedom. On a leash, in an exercise pen, or in sight at ALL times. In sight means you are staring right at him, not talking on the phone or on the computer or cooking. It only takes a second for him to pee. Good luck. |
I suggest you call your vet. Even though he was a ABX they are not always for everything. The ABX he was on may not be for UTI or he may need them longer. So give him a call just to be safe |
I've never heard of a male losing bladder control but females often do. If it continues have him checked by the vet. It sounds more like a spite thing if he's marking territory. If he had already started marking before the neuter he won't stop just cause he was neutered. Belly bands might be a good option when he's healed up enough |
Thanks! Yes, I suppose it could be a UTI depending on what the antibiotics were for. Good call. :) I know that marking might not stop after neutering, but it's just so strange because this behavior is WAY more extreme than it has ever been. He never peed on furniture or a bed before. I'm just baffled. Thanks for your responses everyone! I really, really appreciate it! |
Okay, so I called the vet and she had a good explanation for what is going on! She said that the shot he received last week (penicillin and cortisone) has steroid properties...one being that they get really thirsty and pee a lot. She said the symptoms should subside within a couple days. Very interesting, and good to know! |
When mine has a UTI, he always pees in the wrong place...If your baby doesn't stop doing that in the next 2 days, I would take him in for a urinalysis and urine culture. It's better to take care of it soon if he does have a UTI. Prayers that he recovers quickly!! |
I was going to tell you that the steroids will cause excessive/sudden onset urination. My friend is going through this with her German Shepherd right now. |
Oh my! That can NOT be fun with a german shepherd! Those have to be some pretty big puddles! :) |
