need some input please lets say Sally got a female yorkie that was everything she ask for, so a year later she asks for a male yorkie. she we guaranteed he would be small short nose and legs, but he was not any of that he is 6 pounds and long leged and guaranteed not to have the same parent as the female...Sally loved him anyway his is now family . A year later AKC tells her : your dogs have the same daddy. and Sally is a crazy nut about her dogs they are her family and best friends. Sally did not make the mistake with the breeding the breeder did. The breeder wants Sally to sent the male back and get a new male. Sally did not make the mistake and feels her family should not pay for the breeders mix up. Sally waited a year for this male to be able to take over the breeding for the now to old to breed male..part of the female that the male is taking over are sisters and the mother to the other only yorkie studs . the breeder knew all this was to take place and it was all timed out just right for sally. Now Sally loves the male and this would also set her back a year, making sally taking a big lose and maybe lose her home for this is the only income. the male has 3 babies that now can only be sold with out AKC papers on top of every thing else. Yes his paper will be fixed, but not in time to sell the 3 pups that are now 14 weeks old... the breeder has made offers, but not one is a life time breeding fix or adds up to the lose sally will be taking.. Sally feels the breed should send her a new male and let her keep the one she loves because sally or the yorkie made this mistake. what would you do if you are this breeder or if you are sally ? thanks Lynda |
I couldn't part with the male, as the bond and love are there already. I would try to work something out with the breeder, as there has to be a solution to this to make everyone happy. Sure there will be a set back and some money lost, but there's gotta be a way... But I would NOT send the male back ;) |
Sally should have another source of income. If Sally is putting out enough puppies per year to pay for her home, she is mass producing and shouldn't be breeding anyway. The breeder is only liable to give Sally a replacement. She does not have to give Sally a free dog for Sally to make money off of. |
sally needs another income and if she is making that kind of money, to keep her up, she is mass producing . Not a good thing. Sally is unrealistic to think she can survive only on yorkie income. Sally should not expect to keep the dog she has and have the breeder replace it. Also, the breeder probably should not have sold to Sally in the first place knowing her dog was going to be used like this. |
sally Sally husband got hurt at work and is now disabled and Sally dose daycare and has for over 30 years. Daycare is not doing well at all. Sally, her husband and her handicapped daugther worked hard to get to this point, so they could do what they all loved doing. They love dogs and wanted to make a go at being good breeders. Being set back a year will be a get hard ship on Sallys family as it is for many family these days. Sally and her family are so close to having all everything paid off, now knowing this could take it all away is a hard pill to take because of someone else mistake..The male and female yorkies Sally family got from the same breeder are parti yorkies. Sally and her husband are not young people, over 53. All Sally wants to know is how you as a breeder would take care of this mistake and if you are Sally what would you think was far. |
Thank you Forgot to say thank you Nicole for understanding how Sally could love her yorkies like family and could not part with even one.. Sallys friends know she is a real nut when it comes to her dogs. Lynda |
As a breeder, I would take care of the mistake by offering to take the offending puppy back and replacing it with an adequate breeder. I would not fix the mistake by giving the client another dog for free. If I was Sally and truly loved the first male as anything more than a monetary commodity, I woul keep him, cut my financial losses, and not do business with that breeder again. |
Sally should keep the male. How about making a deal for stud services? |

Stud services is a good idea if you need the income. There are probably yorkie breeders who would like to introduce the parti gene into their breeding lines. I think they're gorgeous dogs. |
yorkie yummis I feel the same way yorkie yummies. everything was just fine with the female that came a year and a half ago, but then came the male...and Sally finds out after the male has been with her a year that the breeder made this big mistake in her recordkeeping. This year has givin Sally and her family time to fall in love with this dog and it now a part of the family. And if you look at it from the breeder side the timing came at a very bad time Sally waited a year for this male to come of age and waited 2 years for the sisters of the other male to come of age. The parti female will be in heat in the spring and has her half brother that she was to breed with...The yorkie male that Sally has had for the last 12 year is now retired and will live the rest of his life as the king he is. Thanks for all the in put... Lynda |
Is reimbursing you half the cost of the original dog an option (and you still keep him)....is this something that the breeder would be willing to do? It was her mistake, afterall. Tammy |

As for Sally, I am sorry for the loss of income and the suffering, but if you can't work something out with the breeder, the best thing you can do is, as the quote says, cut your losses and move on while trying to make the best of the situation. If it sadly comes to the point where you have to move, just remember to try and look for a low cost area that can help your business. Find somewhere that Yorkies or the puppies you daycare for are plentiful. Always look for the silver lining, and don't forget that while you might have lost a lot, you've gained a furry friend who will love you no matter what happens. Best of luck! |

fixed papers As soon as the breeder sends in all the DNA on her males the AKC papers will be fixed. the breeder is sure the father to the male is the same as the female. And if you read up you will see Sally has many full time jobs. Daycare for over 30 year, taking care of a blind handdicapped child for 28 years and a disable husband...and none of these pay well, not even daycare because time are hard on all right now. When Sally was a younger she was a Volunteer EMT for 7 year and worked as a Volunteer for the red cross for 6 years. She has more then paid her dews. Everyone on here knows someone that makes a living at breeding and loves what they do at the same time, No one could take a big set back. As a breeder you must time everything you do, and Sally had everything timed. Her familys dream was to do what they loved doing. Sally saved 3 years for these parti yorkies, something she always wanted. Why is it so wrong have saved to do something you love doing? Is it not ok to love your dogs just because you are a breeder? Am I to think as a breeder that I can make mistake and not have to take care of them ? Its not what I have learned so far in life, but maybe the rules are not the same for breeders ? Sally has been trustworthy and honorable with her buys and would hope other breeders would be too. Why is it ok that a breeder make a big mistake? and why should the buyer have to pay for the breeders big and costly mistake ? You can't judge a person till you have walked in their shoes! So what is Sally is having hard time right now, what if Sally was rich, what is the Difference, right is right and wrong is wrong. Who can draw the fine line rich or poor ! Sally only wanted some input from other breeders ? Thanks to those breeder who did help out.. |
I feel bad that Sallys life did not turn out like she had hoped it would and had alot of unforseen health problems occur. That being said, ther is a correct way and an incorrect way to breed dogs. Breeding dogs is not first and foremost done to pay the house payment or make extra $$$ for the bills. What is Sally going to do when her prize Yorkie needs an emergency c-section at 3 am?? Emergency vets are not cheap and she will not make any profit. What will Sally do if her prize Yorkie dies during a c-section? What if the pupies die? Where is the house payment then? Sallys investment is gone. If breeding is done correctly, it is very doubtful if any profit will be made after all the health screenings are done BEFORE any breeding takes place and not to mention all of the health screenings on the puppies before they are ready to be sold. What I am trying to say is that breeding puppies is not a guaranteed money maker unless you are mass producing and even then the up-keep and $$ spent is huge compared to the small profit gained. |
who is sally? ok, who is sally? lol  i am really confused by the way the post was written. i don't really understand what the question is and why you are writing in the 3rd person? 'let's say sally'... is this like an embarrassing question that you pretend is happening to someone else or am i completely missing something? i am sorry, i just see people posting on this thread, and i feel strange that i am the only person that's totally not understanding what you are saying. i would like to help if i can offer you some suggestions, but i do not understand your question. lol. sorry. |

Wow!!!!!! |
Ok I know breeding can not be the only income and yes we take set backs...VISA works real well for those set backs. We have come so close to the house being paid for and to be set back by a year will make it a very hard to do. It has taken many years to get to this point. When you have a handdicapped 28 year old there is SSI and a disabled husband there is a check for that too. We are not with out any income. I think everyones dreams is to get to the good point in your life, when you don't have to work so hard anymore. When your bills don't come to much anymore and you can do what you love, why not? We all have family and friends that help out in bad times if need be.. we have already done the an emergency c-section at 12:30am. And it helps if you have a very good and nice vet who works with you(we do) and have one of the old daycare children that will be a vet in less then 1 year, whom has never stopped helping out with the dogs she grow up with. We have already had AKC paper pulled before because DNA showed the mom or dad was not the dad or mom, but that yorkie is still here. and no that breeder never paid for that mistake. We have had many set backs and it gets to the point you just can't take it any more and have the need to fight back for once. See we did not say we are dummys, we know what we are getting into, and knew we needed to be set for what could go wrong. But this wrong was nothing WE did. we said we needed some input on how you would handle finding out your two parti yorkies have the same father and you where guaranteed they would not be. We may have to save again to buy a new parti male, the breeder may not do a thing to fix her wrong. If so, so be it, nothing I can do the change the way some breeders are. Finding out how other breeder would handle this dose help me out, and makes me think. Lynda I did not use any names because I know yorkietalk dose not like that at all |
My daughter is going to Medical School in Bethesda MD. She said everything there is very expensive...Good luck to you.I know things will work out. you sound like a lovely person..... |
I think I would. . . ask the breeder to have one of his males, of my choosing, mate with my female. When those pups are born, and now able to be pedigreed, I would purchase a new male with the money I receive from the sale of the new pups. Oh, and I wouldn't buy my new male puppy from that particular breeder! Good luck. |
would work a breeding to the female would work if the breeder did not live on the other site of the USA. This is what sally has asked of the breeder...the breeder said she has a male that is 6 mouths old and she would send that male only if Sally sends back the male she now loves....so Sally asked the breeder if she would send that male and when Sally has parti yorkies she would send the breeder back a male. Sally would put this in writing and get it notarized. The breeder has had a week to think about this but has not takin Sally up on this. It seems to be the only way Sally thinks would be a win win...and this way the breeder will not lose out too.. Lynda |
