Grooming question Can anybody help me with gromming tips or technique? I brought my little boy home a couple days ago and he was so shaggy I had to cut his hair...gasp!!!!! Ok I'm no dog groomer :D .. but I felt the immediate need to do something with his crazy hair. His hair is very fine and not thick ANYWHERE. He had never been trimmed or cut in 6 months and his ears were at halfmast from the weight. I cut the ear fur short and also cut his facial hair pretty short, but was afraid to cut his body hair so close because then he would look like a skinned rat....LOL. His hair is so fine and wispy I was hoping this will help it look thicker with regular trimming, but have no idea. he is 6 months old.... will it always stay wispy like this or will it fill in some as he gets older. By the way... he is very small framed if this has anything to do with hair type...LOL... I feel stupid... I don't know!!!!! Thanks, Yorkieangel |
Its more than likely just puppy hair. Wait and see how it comes in a few weeks/months from now. |
At six months he is still growing into his adult coat. It should get much better with continued grooming. I bet his ears feel better already. lol :) |
Ok, THANKS. I wasn't sure and was thinking he was destined to always look scraggly....LOL.... I can sympathize as I have the same stupid hair... HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA. Maybe that's why I fell in love with him :p |
Whoops I forgot to ask, should I cut his coat down also to make it come in better? I took about an inch off but he still has about 3 scraggly inches left :D |
lol. I can groom my puppies and they look so beautiful one day and the next its humid, they play and they look all scraggly too. Its a constant battle. I hear ya on the hair thing. lol :) |
I would just leave it and comb it out everyday if possible. But thats me. :) |
LOL... Combing is no problem... I raise persian cats and THAT is a constant combing nightmare. This little guy will be a breeze to comb :animal36 Yorkieangel |
Wow! I love Persians. We have a Himalayin. He's such a sweetheart and really gorgeous but so hard to comb out. :) |
I hear you  I have himmies too. I'm starting to fade down to Silkie coat persians though. Much easier maintenence and way less shedding. Hmmmmmmmmmm do Yorkies have these two types of coats too? I mean ... can a Yorkie be cottony or silkie? I know Shih Tzu's can be either too. Thanks , Yorkieangel |
When i had Yoda's hair cut i did it because he HATED the topknot LOL...but i have also noticed the texture of his hair is much softer now...so maybe cutting it will help with a better coat...not sure just my opinion. BTW he loves his new "do". |
