My Ella Bean also has the cottony coat.

Do you have a slicker brush? I find that gets out the teeny mats, and I use a comb to break up the bigger ones.

These dogs have no undercoat, so their fur won't keep them warm - especially in the Norhwest! Time to invest in a parka!!

I use Isle of Dogs shampoo, conditioner and detangler as they are the first products that have kept her relatively mat free. The detangler I spritz in every day before brushing and the mats slide right out!

The most important thing is daily brushing...

My Beau has a very fine coat also. I brush him everyday with a slicker brush to keep tangles at bay and when I have to, I use a dematting comb (with little razor blades) to cut through the little mats. That is what my groomer recommended and it really works great! It doesn't pull his hair, so he doesn't mind it. I also use a conditioner after I shampoo him.

BRUSH BRUSH BRUSH...Do it all of the time....I too use a stickler brush...Yuki hated it at first, but just becareful not to scratch the skin. Maybe have kids brush with a regular brush...

What is a slicker brush? I have a brush that is a square with a handle on it. The square has little metal teeth but it pulls on her hair even with detangler (I saturated her with it). Although I do love the smell of it! It's Baby Powder scented. It does make her hair look pretty.

Sounds like a slicker!! Here is a picture of the standard slickers.

Hmmm...well, start by brushing daily with the slicker and then go through with a fine tooth comb. I think you may need a different detangler, but my girl has cottony fur and I must admit, I slacked on the brushing for a few days and tonight was a LONG and painful grooming session. If you aren't consistent, its tough!

congrats on your new girl! I also have a morkie named Bella. Are they not the best!?! It's so fun watching them grow up and change. My bella has lightened some on her back and face. Heres some pics of her. I also have some updated pics of her on my page. She's almost 7 months old now, weighing around 4 lbs. Keep us updated w/ pics!

hi, I also have a beautfiul wee Morkie who is 15 months old. His name is Alfie and he is a real character. He has been pretty good with the toileting but still has the occasional accident (had one about half an hour ago when I forgot to open the door for him so he peed at the front door).

I was curious what a morkie was and so I clicked on and now I know. I had never heard of that. And now I'm wondering if my Jack is a morkie...? His coat is kind of cottony like you some of you are mentioning. What do you think? He's the one in my avatar. I wouldn't trade him for the world, just curious.:animal36

I am MAD about my Yorkie babies, love the breed, but I must say I got lucky with my Morkie, Braxton. He's got a small, curved tail. Fluffy, beautiful hair. The breeder calls his color "cinnamon" but it is really a combination of colors. The hair is white near the roots but then turns creamy ivory. The tips are burnt orange except for a ring around his mouth and nose in black and the tips of his ears are also black. His lineage includes Maltese with black points.

He is the perfect foil for our two Yorkies and we call him the middle child because even though he's the youngest he always winds up in the middle of the Yorkie pair.

I'm not snobbish or puritanical about mixed breeds because that is how many of the "pure" breed dogs came to be what they are today.

OMG! They are all so beautiful. My Mom has been torn between the 2 breeds so I am going to suggest a Morkie to her. That would settle that huh?

gracieanna---I'd love to see pics of your furbabies, especially Braxton. I also have both a Yorkie and a Morkie (Meika my lil brown bear). Most of the Morkies I see here are more the Yorkie colors of silver/grey, and I'm always looking for more like Meika's redish color. Since colors and coats vary so much, I'm also looking for "hair style" ideas for her.

My minnie is silver and white with a little light brown. She is so smart and is so pleasant. She really is a good girl. Wouldn't give my morkie up for anything.

Mitzy is so pretty all white and smiling in her avatar pic. It's interesting how she carries so much of the Maltese color & look, and other Morkies are more Yorkie. I love the "surprise" factor of Morkies.

Braxton looks like a little teddy bear, that's what everyone who saw him at the mall last night said. We took all three of our dogs for portraits.
