Looking at a Yorkie tomorrow!!! I have been searching for a small Yorkie girl for several months & I finally found a few in my price range! I am going to look at one tomorrow after work! What questions should I make sure I ask? What do I need to look for as far as the puppy goes (hair color, bright eyes, etc)? The lady seems to think she will only be about 5 pounds full grown. Is that too large or about right? I am so nervous!!!:animal-pa |
How exciting!! Make sure she is reputable, ask about her health gurantee, look for any signs of illness, runny eyes, coughing, lethargy. Try and spend enough time to assess the personality. Hopefully others will post with ideas as well. Try not to fall in love instantly like I do, and really make sure the puppy is healthy. Keep us posted |
It's a good idea to see the pup's parents. I think 5 lbs is a good weight, but it's hard to predict adult weight. There are some rules of thumb, based on current weight and age. Check FAQ sticky for chart. |
I'm not an expert. What is right for me may not fit for you and your lifestyle. I did'nt want a small Yorkie. I have rough little neices and nephews and they live right next door,so I wanted a larger one. I re-searched online and that's how I found YT. There is alot of great info on this site. I got books and talked with other Yorkie owners. I'm sure you'll get alot of responces. Good Luck and Keep us posted. I would just make sure it's right for you.;) |
I agree with everyone. Make sure you see both parents. To tell you the truth. I think Lola my 5 lb girl is alot hardier than my male Manolo who I weighed today and is 2.8. When Manolo gets sick I Have to act fast because he is so little he goes down faster than my female when she gets sick. Goodluck! you must be so excited!:D Make sure you find a reputable breeder, One that has been reccommended is a good place to start...the Hobby show breeders are the best in my honest opinion..they shouldn't breed for tinies..but occasionally they may sometimes get a smaller pup that will be too small to breed or show and will be looking for that perfect pet home.;) make sure you see both parents..assess the living conditions, are they clean and warm etc, are the puppies happy,playful,bold and heathy looking? check for fleas, an overly swollen tummy may mean worms, check for any discharge from the eyes. Try not to rush into it if you can help yourself..I know its hard!:rolleyes: and remember..there is no guarantee with the eventual adult weight..the breeder will give you a 'guesstimate' but its not set in stone!...;) and again..GOODLUCK!:D |
