My Yorkie's Knees Are Bad!!! HELP! Does anyone else have a Yorkie with bad knees. I took my baby for a check up and his vet said his knee caps slip? He said it is common among smaller dogs and he recommended a supplement I add to his food that helps the joints. Does anyone else's yorkie have this problem, and if so have you found something that works for him/her? Right now I got the supplement and my boyfriend and I rub his knees every night and stopped letting him jump down from the bed. I was thinking I need to get those little stairs. |
I'm sorry to hear about your baby. If you search LP or Luxating patella on here, you'll find tons of info. |
Sorry to hear about your boy's knees. :( I don't have any personal experience with this, but I have seen a lot of post on YT about it. I'm sure you can find some helpful info with a few simple searches. I'm sure the stairs would help a great deal. We have a step stool for Gracie to use to get up and down from the couch. Sure wish Boo would use it and save the wear and tear on his legs. |
Yes, Luxating Patella is pretty common. Did he say what Grade he felt they were? LP has Grade 1 to 4 (3 & 4 IMO are bad and should get surgery to stop further luxation). Here are some tips. NO more jumping. I have about 6 Foam Ramps around my house that I got from Ebay (search for Foam Ramp). A lot of us are using a product: Cosiquin Not sure about the rubbing of his knees though  |
I just found out my little girl has grade 2 LP. She is very comfortable running, actually loves it but I have caught her sometimes limping slightly with her right hind leg. She doesn't appear to be in pain but my vet gave me some Chinese herbs (Tendon/Ligament teapill) to strengthen her leg. |

My baby has bad knees also, her right knee is worse then the left, no more jumping and running around too much. Getting some vitamins would be great for your pup also. |
