Is something wrong with his hair? Bentley has been having a few things going on with his hair and I am not sure if they are normal. -First his hair id so thin! if it is parted anywhere other than straight down his back he looks like he has bald spots. Then he actually gave himself a back hind end, I think maybe because the fleas were unaviodable here this year. But now it looks like maybe there is another spot. The first one you could tell was from him biting it and this one doesnt look that way. -Second his hair gets so greasy after 2-3 days after a bath. Is it normal, am I just petting him to much lol? |
I've heard people talk about "greasy" Yorkies, but I've never experienced it. How old is your pup? What do you feed him? When I got a 10-year-old rescue, his hair was very thin. I started adding Missing Link as a supplement, along with feeding him well, and his hair came in thick and beautiful. |
maybe i will try that. he is one year old and i am feeding him eukanuba. i thought that was a pretty good kibble. |
I don't know. Sounds like he might be having some type of issue. I used to use Pedigree and now I use EVO a much better food. My baby's coat has always been really nice and doesn't get to greasy. I do bathe and condition it once a week. Has he had fleas lately. Maybe he just did a bit of scratching and has rubbed himself raw in some areas. |
eukanuba is not good food, go here: Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost and look it up then check out the 4,5,6 star foods. there are alot of better foods out there for about the same price. I have heard of flea allergies causing hair loss. Also bathing too often can cause a greasy Yorkie The oil glands start working over time because the shampoo dries the skin out and his body tries to make up for it. So I would try a gentle shampoo. |
Sound's like the flea problem messed up his hair .It's really important to make sure they dont have fleas not only for there hair but there health. |
fleas are always a problem here in Al, started my pups on "comfortis" flea pills about a month ago. Within 30 min the fleas are dead and this continues working from inside out, use it monthly, seems to be working really good for us. Good luck! |
I would do a few different things. I would first change his food, secondly, don't condition his hair if it gets oily, just shampoo it and thirdly, I would add supplements to his food. Make sure all the fleas are gone and you should start seeing an improvement pretty quickly :) |
PS, you can never pet them too much :) |
